IMO this will go just like Rasmus. They're listening, but they'll want the absolute moon and it won't go anywhere.

This would be a very expensive deal.

But god would I love Upton.

So what will they ask of us? Drabek? JP? Snider? 2 of the 3?

My guess is it'd be Snider and Drabek to start plus an extra piece or two. Obviously just a guess.

In the long run is Upton worth that?

God, who knows. Potential through the roof...but B.J. had potential too.

Is the gap between Snider and Upton...drabek plus?

I think so. Upton would be a very good fit on this team. It'll probably cost Drabek, Snider and JPA. This guy is only 23 years old by the way.

If it were just the two, it's pretty darn close for me, but he's definitely got the skills to be super duper leet. I think it'd be doable if it were just those two. The problem is, if the accounts are accurate, expect the 3rd and 4th pieces they initially ask for to be like Perez and Hech or something and at that point you just can't do it. If pieces 3 and 4 were closer to Farq and Magnuson level it becomes a maybe, but my guess is this is where talks have broken down with NYY and BOS. Montero and an arm, Kelly and Ellsbury, but not that plus 1-2 more B+ type guys.

Drabek, Snider and Arencibia? Is Upton honestly that good? I'm more of a casual fan and have heard he's got a ridiculous ceiling but his stats don't jump out at me and I've read he's not a good defensive fielder.

Well if you're talking about Snider or Arencibia, do their stats or defence jump out at you?

I agree with those who say it's probably right on the margin to deal Snider and Drabek for Upton, but anything more becomes somewhat problematic if we're talking another A level prospect.

I'd like to see the Jays develop a more balanced offence, less dependent on the long ball, with more guys hitting for average.

Can someone explain why Upton is such a good prospect to get Snider, Drabek and more?

id give up snider for upton straight up...imo snider will be nothing more than a 25, 80 hitter 250 avg..

unless he switches his mechanics...hes always trying to hit the long ball...rather than make contact..

Snider and Drabek is too much. Frankly, I'm not even sure I'd give up Snider for him. Snider is slightly younger than Upton, already a better power hitter, and given a full-year of at-bats could be primed for a breakout season. Upton has better plate discipline at the moment, but a .350 OBP isn't spectacular enough to trade 4 top propsects for him. Sure you can argue Upton will get better, but why isn't the same true of Snider? They both have good track records in the minors, no? Defensively of course Upton is the superior player, but again, not worth the price his team appears to be asking.

If we're dealing from our area of strength (pitching and catching), I'm all for acquiring him if the price isn't too horrible. If something like Drabek + Arencibia + Litsch can get it done, then sure, why not.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Justin Upton's worst case scenario is an above average borderline all star RF, his upside and best case scenario is the best player in Baseball. Frankly i don't think Drabek and Snider gets it done, remember Upton is signed to a great contract until 2015, you don't have to worry about free agency for half a decade.
