Looks like the greeks were right! Don't know how I feel about this.....

The New Orleans Hornets and Toronto Raptors are in serious discussions on a five-player trade that would send Peja Stojakovic and Jerryd Bayless to the Raptors for Jarrett Jack, David Andersen and Marcus Banks, a source told ESPN.com Saturday.

The deal was close to being completed Friday night, but was held up over the amount of cash the Hornets would send to the Raptors in the trade.

Still, the holdup was not believed to be insurmountable, according to a source with direct knowledge of the talks, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Stojakovic is in the final year of his contract, earning $14.25 million, and has fallen out of the rotation in New Orleans, averaging just 7.5 points in less than 15 minutes per game playing behind Marco Belinelli, whom the Hornets acquired in another trade with the Raptors during the summer.

Bayless is averaging 4.5 points and 2.5 assists as the backup point guard behind Chris Paul.

Jack, who is earning $4.6 million and has two more seasons left on his contract, has started all 13 games for the Raptors, averaging 10.8 points and 4.5 assists. But he has played an average of only 26 minutes per night, basically operating in a time-share with Jose Calderon at point guard.

Andersen, a backup center, is averaging 5.1 points and 3.1 rebounds, and Banks (in the final year of his contract, making $4.85 million) has appeared in only three games this season.

I tried to merge it, but for whatever reason, RealGM is stupid. Here is the link:

Second, Bayless cant be dealt until Dec 23 since he was recently traded.

maybe there is a trade in the works but this is not it

You can trade Bayless in a one on one, say, for Anderson, or trade him into the Bosh TPE. Since this deal would reduce the amount of salary the Raptors could take using the TPE, there is no reason not to use a small part of the TPE to do it.

Crazy... I'll eat crow dude must've got the headsup from Peja. I like this trade for the single reason that it'll guarantee a 20 win season.

I think Peja for Jack, Andersen, and Banks works, then I would imagine Bayless for 2.4M TPE which gets around the trade issue

This is a mighty fine tanking trade, though it would be nice if we were getting a little more out of it than Bayless given that we're both improving the Hornets and (I believe) getting them under the luxury tax.

i like andersen right now, hes proving valuable as a 2nd unit big, dont know who would replace that, who would back up pg, and getting peja creates a further logjam at our 2-3 spot. i call fake.

I guess Bayless is not happy with the PT.
However, I am not sure we want to send Evans over, since we don't have enough depth at the C/PF spot.

Most likely Peja will play less than 15mins a game, and we need Weems quickness.
Bayless then will play 20mins with Barbosa injured.

I don't see why we can't have their 1st or 2nd. They should be out of the lottery barring major disaster. Maybe it's part of the ongoing talks....

Bayless has fallen out of favour with the Hornets already??

As long as Peja's not a rotation player..it's a meh trade.

Consider that the Raptors are getting out of Jarrett Jack's contract. It may be a decent contract for a player of his caliber, but it gives us more flexibility after this season.

Hornets dont have anything else.

I cant see them unloading Thronton.
They already gave up their 2011 first for Bayless.
Peja is their largest trade chip and they'll be using it here.

Bayless is not a good basketball player but we do get Peja's expiring which is a great advantage for this squad.

How do we get around Bayless not being eligible to be traded until De 23rd? He would just wait in a separate deal? A trade's never gone down like that, has it?

Oh, definitely...I quite like this trade even if we don't get a pick. But as we're saving the Hornets a huge chunk of cash while bolstering their on-court product slightly, a future pick would be a nice thank you.

Banks, Jack, and Andersen for Peja works

Then I would imagine Bayless for some of the TPE in a separate deal.

well i remember bayless was compared to gilbert arenas when he was in college..time to live up to the hype! I think he could be pretty good once he gets more experience since he rarely ever plays but we'll see.
