obviously, we need a big that knows what to do on the defense, is mobile enough to cover baseline penetration from the opposite side of the key, can play p'n'r without getting consistently burned.
to that end i wonder if Rick ought to consider playing Jefferies more. i guess the grass is always greener, etc, etc, but i haven't seen him blow a layup in so long now i'm about ready to see him on the court again if he can improve our horrid defense.
> re: all this talk about trades etc.
what's the point? it's done already, so endless re-hashing/second guessing isn't constructive even in the limited scope of hoops-discussion that we're ostensibly participating in. At this stage of the season the onus is on the coach. He's got a team that has talent but lacks chemistry. It's up to him to make something of it. Problem is, he's not one to make the sort of extreme changes we may require to turn our season around - he likes to do things slowly, and maybe he's got a point. But of course, it's results that are the final arbiter, and our results suck so far.

Grond,
Most trade proposals by fans are "if we only traded player I don't like for player on another team I really like our team would be a lock to win the Championship". That's the point
Seriously, the Rockets bench has utterly collapsed this season. When the Rockets had their surprising start last yr,the bench had Landry,Andersen,Lowry,Bud and Brooks scoring.(Brooks was effectively the starting PG and back-up SG as he and Lowry spent 2 shifts together on the court.)
This yr w/Yao mostly out of lineup,Miller has been starting so there is no big off the bench who can offer any offense at all. Bud left his jump shot in his exit interview,Lee has been ghastly on offense and Smith is more comfortable setting up others. When the bench came in last yr it quite often generated runs the starters could milk. Now the bench comes in and gives up runs the starters can't make up.
Straighten out the bench and the ripple effects will be huge.
