In the first meeting between this year's top two draft picks, the Washington Wizards' John Wall outshined the Philadelphia 76ers' Evan Turner.

After missing time because of an ailing left foot, Wall may get the chance to do that again.

The Wizards point guard could return from his injury in time for Tuesday night's game against the 76ers, who could get swingman Andre Iguodala back in the lineup.

Wall, taken with the first overall pick, set career bests with 29 points, 13 assists and nine steals in a 116-115 overtime victory over Philadelphia on Nov. 2. Turner finished with nine points and six rebounds.

Wall has sat out the past four games, with the Wizards (4-8) alternating wins and losses over that span. They fell 115-110 in overtime on the road to Detroit on Sunday.

Gilbert Arenas had 19 points and a career-high 16 assists, while JaVale McGee registered 20 points and a career-best 16 rebounds.

Its bad enough that everything he says seems directed towards Kirk. Like when Wall has been out before last game he said that its been good for Wall to sit and watch a vet like Kirk run the point. Like Gil hasnt been playing well or passing well?

Third time in four seasons the Wiz and 76ers square off on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. So far these games have been good for the Wiz. In 2008 Blatche exploded with a 26 point, 8 board, 4 assist effort off the bench, last year the Wiz won a nail biter in the first game after Abe passed. I am hoping that history serves and the Wiz come away with a victory!

"I think we're both getting our time handling the ball and making decisions," Hinrich said. "It's easy to play with a guy like Gilbert. He can make you look good. He can make tough shots and stretch the defense and the defense has to respect him. It's one of those things where we've kind of naturally played well together."

Hinrich said the Wizards should be more worried about how to close out games than figuring out how to play with Wall again. Arenas said recently that adjusting to Wall wouldn't be a problem. "John's strengths are different than ours. He's more of a fast break machine. So when he's in the game we have to lay back and let him do his thing and then we find our rhythm."

Arenas added last week that he would be willing to return to the reserve role that he played in his first four games after coming back from a strained tendon in his right foot. "This is John's team. So when he gets back, everybody falls back into place. I'll be coming back off the bench as the sixth man, and then from there, we'll find our way."

I'm sitting this one out - Gil starting makes good sense, but we'll see.

I'd imagine some others might have more impassioned positions on the issue.

But, no matter what, ya' gotta hand it to Gil for having a good attitude here as not many vets would be as easy to jive with all this. Not even just the incursion from Wall, but more or less taking a backseat to Hiney too.

Tinfoil-hat conspiracy alert: Maybe this is stage one of the "let's showcase Gil" plan with Gil being in on it. Stage 1) Show that Gil's not a chemistry risk. Stage 2) Gil gets hot. Stage 3) I think you get the idea.

Well, that's a reach, but the thought occurred to me and it is a bit unusual - OK, borderline 'weird' - how things are being handled here.

yeah, I saw those comments when they came out and I didnt like it. Im hoping he was just trying to be a team player. Even though Im a big Gil fan, I never said that he wasnt a idiot alot of times. He's also crazy enough to even go up to Flip & say that while Flip is stupid enough to do it until we lose more and he has no choice but to start Gil over Kirk.

All you got to do is look at what Kirk said to get the real point. He said its easy to play with Gil because he can stretch the defense. Its almost like a back handed shot at Wall and saying that since he cant shoot, it hurts the Offense in the halfcourt. Kirk & Wall are ok but its the worst combination out of the 3 by far. Kirk & Gil are better together and Gil & Wall are better together, so dont be dumb enough to start Kirk & Wall when they mesh the least. Then at the same time you bring Gil off the bench who's probably the guy most effected out of the 3 when it comes to coming off the bench. I dont think it would hurt Wall or Kirk's game at all to come off. Gils a star so he still will do ok but if you want him to have consistent big games then he needs to start and our team needs that from him to win.

Still, Gil is even crazy enough to get the start beside Wall and still let Wall do everything for while he plays strictly like a role player for a bit. He's always had mental problems like that. Like early on not knowing when to shoot or pass. Its not that difficult. Shoot it one on one and pass it when they double you. Its not complicated

The simple reason for this is that, as of now, Arenas is still the best player. He's playing perhaps too unselfishly and he's definitely making everyone around him better.

I'm quite interested to see how Flip handles this. He can't possibly not start Arenas, can he? In his last 5, Arenas is averaging 20.6/4.6/6.2 on 46% shooting and that includes the stinker in Boston. Take out the Boston game and Arenas is averaging 23.3/5/7.5 on 49% shooting over 4 games. You simply can't keep that out of the starting lineup.

whatsoever. He wasn't talking about Wall.

Gil and Wall should start but no one should get too hung
up over it. It's about minutes. I kinda think Wall should
come off the bench as inserting him wlll provide a
booster rocket for us that other teams will have a hard
time dealing with. Of course it could also be argued that
starting him presents the same problem for opps.
I guess I would start Gil and Wall together. KH can
come in for whoever gets tired or isn't having a
good start.

I really don't think it matters much whether Wall, Gil or Hinrich starts. They're all going to get 25+ minutes and whoever is playing best will get more. Guard play is our strength.

What this team really needs is for Blatche to get his head out of his ass and start playing better defense and start taking better shots on offense.

This is a very dangerous game to me. Philly is kinda like us in that they havent had all there pieces totally on deck with the right lineup they wanted all year. This game will be one of the only few they have and the other one's were against great teams on the road. They will start Holliday, Turner, Iggy, Brand, & Hawes while coming off the bench with Williams, Nocioni, Young, & Speights. There is real talent there.

There problem is that alot of those guys are just alike and hardly any of them are good shooters. I wouldnt be shocked if we played a ton of Zone this game until Philly shows they can knock down some jumpers. Maybe go man to man but if they make some then stay in the zone. Again, I would feel much better if we started the Wall-Gil backcourt. Philly doesnt have the shooters but they have a ton of streaky guys who on the right night can go off and we are still trying to find ourselves through injuries, lineups, and rotations. Could be a blowout or it could be a super tight game where guys dont totally mesh and we look like crap in stretches

First off, Fishercob likes to talk about how he doesn't like the "tantrums" about Gil not starting yet he ignores anyway he disagrees with, so no reason addressing the old man.

Second, Nate, "you have no idea what you are talking about". The REAL statistician on this site told you in the last thread that it is in fact important who starts the game.

Third, I'm sick of this garbage, if Gilbert is not going to start then the team needs to find a way trade him and be done with it. They have no intention on recouping value for him, Ernie/Ted will take the first trade they find based on history here. There is no goal for this squad, next year will be a lockout for sure, and in 2-3 more John Wall will be on the first flight out of town.

BTW Manu Ginobli will never, EVER make the Hall Of Fame, some of you are straight clowns who never get called out on your garbage because you like to be PC on everything.
