Re: Is an OJ Mayo trade realistic?
Maybe this is a separate thread, but do people think we're looking to upgrade our SG position?
Are GarPax satisfied with what we have right now (biding time to see how this lineup mixes with Boozer), or are they actively inquiring about Marcus Thornton et al?

Scottie Pippen's response to whom he would pick for his running mate, Michael or LeBron: "That's a dumbass question. I've never done anything with LeBron. I wouldn't take LeBron to the movies."

If you asked them....I bet they would give you a generic PC answer. "Well, we are always looking to improve the team if the right opportunity arises, but we are very happy with our current group of guys and the way they've played."
But I'm sure they are looking for upgrades on the low. They might not pull the trigger, but they HAVE to know that we could use an upgrade. However....they might as well wait until Boozer gets back to see exactly what they need.

People who are saying OJ Mayo isn't a good defender have no idea what they're talking about. Not only is he a good defender, but he has the potential to become an elite defender under someone like Thibs.

He's not a good defender currently. In fact you are the first person I've read claim he is a good defender today. Now, granted, I guess you are right and the rest of the world, including Memphis and the Memphis fans, "have no idea what they're talking about".
Which scenario is more likely though?
Bonus question, how does a GOOD defender manage to get identical awful defensive ratings two years running? That can't be easy?

Even with Thibs here, a Rose, Mayo back court would be the worst defensive unit in the NBA, If you do not get a chance ot seee him play much, just Google worst defensive player in the NBA, and he will be listed on most sites. Heere is the 1st one that popped up for me.
"* O.J. Mayo, Memphis. Last year’s No-Defense Rookie of the Year kept it going this year.
Memphis kept opponents’ EFG under 50% when Mayo was out. Opponents shot 52.9% EFG when he was in. That’s Memphis we’re talking about. It’s not like that team is stocked with defenders. But Mayo made things much worse."

If you are talking about a guy to add some scoring off the bench, and only have to give up a late pick, then go for it, but multiple picks, or including the cats pick. for a guy whose offense is declining, and has never played a lick of defense is crazy.

Anybody playing like Mayo isn't very playing well, we have that, or better, already.

The funny part is....
According to the Memphis fan(s).....
Johnson + 2011 1st + Cat's pick + Cash isn't near enough. But who knows with Memphis. They give away Gasol, them max out Gay while bidding against themselves in the process.

Out of interest how does Mayo's defensive rating compare to our own? Keith Bogans and Ashton Korver

Both Bogans and Korver have better defensive ratings than Mayo. The problem with Mayo on defense is that he has trouble guarding 2's moreso than 1's.
Though, I must say that I believe if Mayo would be a Bull, Thibs could definitely help him both defensively and offensively.

Jordan never fully understood basketball. He had the lowest basketball IQ of any NBA "superstar" in history.

They've never had a single season as bad as Mayo's CAREER average.
They aren't good, but like most NBA players, better than Mayo.

Pretty much. Mayo's more talented than both, but I believe he'll never put it together in Memphis.

Korver has a much better offensive rating than Mayo, in fact Mayo's rating is closer to Bogans than Korver. Ugh.
They are cheaper and under contract and on non-Thibs teams better defenders.
I doubt they give up Mayo for a late #1 or a late #1 and JJ, so really to finally answer the OP, doesn't seem very likely.

Probably the one already on their team that is cheap and they don't have to give up assets for.

Re: Is an OJ Mayo trade realistic?
OJ Mayo has gotten more mileage out of being a great high school player than just about anybody else I've ever seen. I can't understand the infatuation with this guy - he's a classic "SG in a PG body" tweener. He doesn't have great athleticism, can't run a team, takes a ton of bad shots, and is a poor defender. Yet there's still a significant number of people who believe he's got some untapped potential to become one of the league's elite players.
I don't see that Mayo brings anything special to this team worth trading for, honestly. There's no way I'd trade Taj for him, and I'd actually rather keep JJ too.
