OT: Jeter is insane

Post#1 » by dennistokyo » Fri Nov 26, 2010 3:08 pm

Jeter wants 150 mil for 6 years. Is he high? Take the 45 over 3 and run like hell. God, I hope the Red Sox manage to drive up the price.

I think the Yankees management is handling this in a terrible way!

Why would an owner ever make a public comment complaining that their players make more money then them? They were the one who overpaid these guys in the first place?

I think Jeter is in a tough position and Yankees management knows it! If he signs somewhere else, the Yankee fans will think he was only after the money. So management is playing that to their advantage and offering him lower than what he is worth.

Now I'm not a fan of Jeter whatsoever but I feel he is getting played.

Man I hate the Yankees!

That contract would be based on his reputation not his skills going forward. I really don't think he is worth that much considering the point he is at in his career.

But he's not worth more than he's being offered.

15 a year for 3 years would be over-paying based on reputation.... 150 mil over 6 years reads very much like a bad joke.

Good lord. There was never a point in Jeter's career where he was worth 25 million a year. I hope the Yankees don't sign him. 45 million over 3 years is already overpaying.

If this was the jays, I'd be pissed about his asking price and let him walk. Since it's the yanks, I'd love to see them cave on the 6 year request. 3 years at 15 million per is already overpaying; Jeter should take it and run.

Jeter is a joke. 45/3 is already way too much. At this point he is worth MAYBE 6-8 million a year.

Jeter has lost it (both mentally and game-wise), but I hope the Yanks cave and give him a huge deal.

this is stupid. the yankees will have no problem with replacing one position player, but jeter is gonna get so much crap if he leaves. jeter needs the yankees much more than they need him.

as a division rival, wouldn't you want the Yanks to cave to Jeter's demands? Not that there is a salary cap in baseball, but having the yankees tied to Jeter's contract for 6 more years at that price should hinder them somehow down the road

He is not even worth 10 million. If I were the yankees I would call his bluff. There is no chance he is getting that in open market so let him walk and his agent will come running back

Yankess for once should not overspend

I wouldn't want Jeter if he agreed to play for 1 million a year, he's a narcissistic ego maniac who would refuse to move out of SS even in his late 30's, he's gonna be a complete liability. The money isn't the problem for the Yankees, its Jeter's ego.

Wow the 2 are just miles apart. 3/$45 vs. 6/$150. Are you kidding me? How on earth does such a gap get resolved? Really going to be interesting to see how this plays out. I think Jeter is playing off of his popularity in NY and figuring they'll have to give him what he wants or the fans will revolt.

Does anyone have an opinion on whether he can pull this off? He is certainly very popular in NY, but even the average fan has got to think he is asking for way to much. JMO.

Yeah, 45/3 is absurd for Jeter, but because they're the Yankees and he's got serious legacy it's the extra price you'd live with if you're them. 150 is actually a number where the Yankees can let him go and have most of their fans forgive them immediately. Unfortunately no one else is going to offer him close to that either. I doubt anyone out there wants to go as high as 45/3. If that 150 number is actually what Jeter expects and not media games or posturing, I almost think the Yankees are better off pulling their offer and just walking than letting him discover where he's at in the market place and coming back really unhappy. Chances are he eventually gets a little over the 45 just for face saving, but it's going to be way way closer to the Yanks offer than 150/6, that's for sure. Jeter would have to pull Guiliani(sp?) out of a burning building, bring Lehman brothers back from the dead, and make Spike Lee and Woody Allen relevant film-makers again to get enough fan support in NYC for the 150 number to even start to come into a realistic salary discussion.

The problem I guess is, He is comparing it to A-Rod's contract.
That is what happens when your the yankees and all you do is outbid yourself.

Return to Toronto Blue Jays
