Who will be our new Coach?

Post#1 » by penquin11 » Mon Nov 29, 2010 1:56 am

Seeing as fox is on the last year of his contract, who will be our new coach?

I hope we can get Ron Rivera for our coach.

All indications are that we will not hire a big name like Gruden or Cower, but rather a young up and comer. So I think Rivera is a very good possibility. I thought Frazier was but looks like Minny is going to keep him after firing Childress.

If we don't grab Cowher, I'd like to see Jim Skipper get it. RB coach, assistant head coach, coached in the laughable XFL (believe his team won the championship with Rod "He Hate Me" Smart as the RB). Meeks is also a good coordinator who I felt was overlooked for many years when coaching in Indy.

You know, we wont make a move until the season ends. But if we get the top pick, and Clausen does not look like our future, dont be at all surprised if we are going to draft Luck from Stanford and have his HC come with him to take over the Panthers. Harbough has built his name up and all indications are he does want to make the move to the NFL. I can see him being very inclined to come to Carolina if he knows he is going to be having Luck as his QB.

We WILL draft Luck, that is the only way I will remain a fan of this team XD

Looks like the Panthers dont want to even consider Harbough, unless it is a smokescreen. All indications are it is Michigan or San Fran. But they have reportedly contacted Ron Rivera's agent to have discussions. He would be a solid pick. Apparenly the Panthers have no interest in paying a high priced coach like Gruden or Cower. Stingy guys. Be careful; you just might get what you pay for.

I don't think it's the Panthers being stingy so much as it is Gruden and Cowher being very comfortable in the booth, and the reality that neither coach could make this team into a contender overnight anyway. Getting a young coach to grow with the team like Morris is doing in TB would be a good idea. (Coincidentally, TB turfed Gruden for Morris, after all...)

I get what you are saying Rooster. Man, I really like Harbough and what he did with Stanford. I really really wish this was a smokescreen about not being interested in him. I have to think it would be enticing to say the least if we could let him know we were going to take Andrew Luck #1. You know he would design the offense around a lot of stuff Luck already knows. That said, I appreciate the Panthers looking at Rivera. I think he will be solid at the NFL HC level. But Harbough is the one I would really like to see here.

Now I know about Fewell and Riviera as coaches, but I only know Manusky from his playing days. Dont know much about his coaching background. Interesting. Wonder if he is being brought in to be considered as a Coordinator rather than HC?

And add Ryan to the list. Seeing a pattern here. They are all 4 defensive minded coaches. I am getting the distinct feeling that they will look for an OC who has a talent working with young QB's. Would not surprise me to hear Mangini's name or Josh McDaniel's name at some point being linked to the OC position.

It is looking like Ron Rivera may be the man. And if so, looks like he brings the SD QB Coach with him. That would be a huge help in bringing Jimmy up to speed and making him a viable QB. That, or they would trade for someone he feels will be able to do the job.

Liking the idea of Rivera more and more. The QB coach is John Ramsdell. He worked with Kurt Warner in St. Louis and Philip Rivers in San Diego. Those two worked out very well under him. I really like the idea of him coming in and working with Jimmy Clausen. That way, we either get Jimmy up to speed for the NFL, or Ramsdell convinces the FO to trade for someone who can handle it.

Looks like Rivera. But now they are talking about Marc Trestman as coming in to coach up Jimmy. I'd be OK with that as he has a great background in coaching up QB's. Could not go wrong with either he or Ramsdell.
