The Official Leafs need a new GM Thread

Post#1 » by Andrea>Dirk » Mon Apr 9, 2007 1:02 am

Vent your feelings towards Fergie.
Propose suggestions for his replacement.
All that good stuff.

Challenge to Leaf fans - Propose a candidate for the next GM

Post#3 » by Hustle&Flow » Mon Apr 9, 2007 1:50 am

Everyone wants to fir JFJ. But who would you replace him with. They need a solid high profile candidate. I would have suggested Brian Burke, but he is already employed.

So here is my suggestion. Get Colin Campbell out of the NHL office and make him the GM.

He has enough influence around the league and in the office. You need someone like him.

And there are not many good GM's out there.

Huh.

When did I start a thread specifically to propose names for the next GM?

At this point in time I'd say anyone aside form JFJ would be fine with me.

Fergie doesn't seem to have any direction ever since he got here. He's made bad moves and passed on decent players that were available. I think anyone with some better hockey knowledge would be a fine replacement for old fergie.

My first choice would be Ken Holland, I don't care that he's under contract. Do whatever it takes.

Second, if possible would be either of Lamouriella from Jersey and Burke from Anaheim. Again both are under contract and aren't really looking to move on, but an attempt should be made.

Next, would be Doug Maclean, he could be let go in Columbus.

Last would be the one rumoured to take over and that is Colin Campbell.

Also, I'd give some consideration to Bob Nicholson taking over as President of the Leafs.

What is with everyone's fascination with this guy? What exactly has he done with the Jackets besides draft Nash and Zheridev, and sign an aging Adam Foote?

I'd almost take my chances with JFJ again.

Almost.

David Conte

I know he would never come but we have a better chance at getting him then we do of getting Lou out of New Jersey.

Is getting Lamouriella from the Devils even realistic? I'd love for it to happen but it's never going to.

Colin Campbell would be nice, same with Brian Burke but we'd have to pay Anaheim a lot of money to be able to talk with him.

He is still a smarter hockey person with experience. He's done a decent job acquiring talent in Columbus. The team hasn't been good and are still somewhat under that expansion era. He never spent money early and now has a cap to deal with.

But he is someone with experience and if I'm not mistaken, did a decent job in Florida prior. Besides, I don't see you bringing up alternatives, give me some names to ponder instead of Doug.

Lou obviously is not realistic, Ken Holland might be though. Seems like things are changing in Detroit and it may be time to move on.

The thing is, the Leafs may not be able to flext their financial muscle on the ice anymore, but they sure can use it off the ice with spending money on moves like getting Burke, Holland or Lou.

Anyone else read that Ferguson had to fight back tears after the missing out on the playoffs while talking to the media? I mean what kind of a GM does that?

For a recent example could you see BC fighting back tears if the Raps were eliminated or didn't make the playoffs?

Just weird

MLSE has to realize this team is worse off then it was last year. With all these unmoveable contracts I don't see the leafs making any noise in the playoffs for 3-4 years. I don't know who I would want outside lou, maybe keenan or ever putting an effort to bring Bowman out of retirement. I just want whomever comes in to change this team completely.

Is he really the problem or is it more the philosophy of the entire hockey operation. I believe, he is largely responsible for the last two year's especially. But until the mentality changes from doing whatever is necessary to be a playoff team and if we win a cup, great, if not, oh well to let's build a contender, nothing will happen for the positive for this organization.
