Kris Humphries: $6 Million Man?

Our starting PF has been quite a surprise this year. He is making the most of an unusually favorable circumstance: Murphy's injury, Favors' transition to the NBA, Avery's... Avery-tude. The fact that he is in a contract year has undoubtedly lit a fire under the 25yo journeyman, who seems to be in line for a hefty payday next summer if he can keep up this sort of production. The question at hand: would YOU like to hold onto Kris at MLE-level money or perhaps greater? Guys like Amir Johnson and Channing Frye produced less than Hump before being rewarded with long-term above-MLE deals this past offseason.

I know, I KNOW, I'm focusing on the negative aspect of one of the few really bright spots for the Nets so far this season. I figure this issue has to be addressed sooner or later, so why not start the discussion ahead of the curve? There are many aspects of this argument that I could further elucidate, but now I want to hear from YOU!

I don't think this question can be properly answered until at least the trade deadline, if not draft night or even until the free agent period itself.

As of now, no way I would ink him and tie up that cap room without exploring all options.

Humps certainly is a big part of the heart and soul of the team but let's not pull a Detroit and overpay our FA's just for the hell of it.

This is Hump's contract year as much as I love the dude (no homo), I'm not willing to commit anything to him yet (double no homo).

too early...but I'm am officially a fan...He realizes he can probably avg. a double double by only taking 4-5 (good) shots...those 4 blocks last night were the real deal...I hope the consistency sticks...

Fo Sho. he is our 3rd best player, our best rebounder, hustle guy, and defender. A lot of teams are going to want him. And you got to reward him for his play this year. He should go to Miami and get the spotlight and major minutes though.

No. He's been great but I wouldn't give him a lengthy contract. It's only a matter of time before Favors is ready to become a starter.

Yeah but you can't have too many big men, and Murphy is obviously a goner.
His next contract is also going to cover his prime.

I would do 4/20 for him.

No, you do not give him an extension this season at all. The better he plays, the better trade asset he becomes later on. Unless you want him to be the backup PF after Favors, I wouldn't mind that but it'll probably be too costly to keep him around. Although maybe he'll be like Jarvis Hayes and he'll actually want to play with us again even though we're not going to win the championship, and maybe he won't be like Hayes and we'll actually consider re-signing him.
