Rookie class has been weak.
Outside of Blake and Wall, there really hasn't been a guy that looks like a game changer. guess not getting picks #2-5 weren't a big deal for us afterall. I don't live in the SLC/Utah area, but I have league pass and watch all the games, but I'd like to know what the locals and the rest of you think of Hayward thus far. I feel only Wall could of got minutes in our team, everybody else would be a back up, and given how they've played on bad teams, these kids seem to need some dire training to play at this level.

For as much warranted grumbling as there has been about Hayward's play so far, I really don't see too many picks before or after him (except maybe Landry Fields, Splitter and Favors..) generating a ton of enthusiasm or a lot of burn. It just happened to be that we had a high draft pick in a relatively weak draft. I'm honestly more excited about Jeremy Evans getting more pt than Hayward at this point..

I really think a lot has to do with where most of these guys went. Most of them went to awful teams, obviously, with very little direction. For instance, possibly the worst performer from this years draft, in comparison to where he was picked, has to be Evan Turner. Kid has done absolutely nothing. However, I still believe that if you put him in a Jazz jersey, the kid is contributing solid minutes come January.

I actually like what I see from Hayward when he's on the court. He reminds me of Ginobili, hustling and generally just the way he moves. He seems to be a good passer, ball handler and defender. He seems too worried about not making any mistakes though. Once he gets used to the system and the pace of the game, I think he'll look like a good pick. I agree that so far, it looks like we couldn't have done much better.

I actually like that comparison. I expect Hayward to pan out just fine.

I don't understand why there'd be grumbling. It's so early, and the kid has played with energy and defended well when he's seen action. His jumper is nowhere to be found, and he's a little tentative, but that's to be expected of a young rookie.

He's always moving, which is all you really need to do with Deron running the point. He's got a timid shot, but he'll get there. We're not even at 20 games yet.
Jazz on your face.

Every time I see him play I'm impressed with his defense. Considering that was the thing that worried me the most when he was drafted I'm perfectly content. His subway commercial sucks ass though.

Re: Rookie class has been weak.
I wonder if the Jazz are going to send him down to the D-League once Memo is healthy. Right now they keep both he and Evans dressed because both can play if needed, but once Memo is back neither will be needed every night as a possible back up. Personally I think the D-League would be good for both of them.

I still wish we had gotten up to #3 to get Favors...

So glad we didn't trade up for Cousins. I knew this guy was going to have attitude issues in this league.

Word is, South Beach is ecstatic that they
won't be seeing Millsaps talents again this season...

Yeah, we wouldn't be able to utilize Favors optimally or we may have passed on getting Jefferson, but Wall would of probably been a great addition.

Re: Rookie class has been weak.
Favors would be great. Work ethic and defense would make a dangerous player for us.
I really wish Hayward could get 10 minutes a night. Our second unit is the reason we are winning right now, but if we it turns out and we realize we aren't competing for a title this year, I would really like to see Hayward and Evans play. Even if it means losing a few games this season, I think giving them backup experience could mean having title worthy roleplayers in the future.

To echo what someone else said, Jeremy Evans has been more intriguing so far than Gordon has....

NYK Fields has been doing well; he seems to have has Matthews' kind of grit...
SAS Anderson and POR's Johnson are intriguing ones.

Fields is a huge 2nd round steal. The kid is an amazing rebounder for a guard.
He would have been perfect in a Jazz uni.

To be fair, I think Gordon is a really good rebounder for his size/position. The thing is (as would've likely been with fields) his not getting much PT to contribute it... yet...
