Rogers to buy Leafs/Raptors/TFC

Post#1 » by LittleOzzy » Wed Dec 1, 2010 1:25 pm

I know this is being discussed on the Raptors board, but how will this effect the Jays?

Could the Blue Jays be an after thought after they buy the Leafs?

At the very least they would be #2. The Jays would still be important for Rogers as they so much potential for growth in profits. Raptors would be the afterthought really as the 2nd winter team. And I don't know where to classify TFC and the Marlies.

Revenue Potential is about equal between the Leafs and Jays with the Raps a little ways back in 3rd, ill try to big up the article I read about Toronto sports teams and post it. The jist of it was that while the leafs are on a year to year basis very profitable more so than the Jays, big years such as 89-94 will bring in huge profits for the jays much higher than any lone NHL season. Also since the NHL and NBA are capped they have a relatively stable budget, baring BC going on a spending spree and hitting the tax level the only team that will really require Rogers to pony up cash is the jays. The thing we do have to worry about is if this is a precursor to Rogers making a play for a NFL team especially if the NFL stays in this un-capped CBA flux that they are currently in.

If Rogers Communications seizes control of the Toronto Maple Leaf empire, it will mean the likely death of CBC’s Hockey Night In Canada, industry analysts say.
