Re: Prospect Watch Thread
Just got through watching the Ohio State-Florida State and North Caroilina-Illinois games.
Demetri McCamey is awesome. I know we have a lot of point guards but, as a 3rd stringer, he'd be excellent value late in the first or in the early to mid 2nd round.
Chris Singleton is a defensive beast. He doesn't have much on offence but defensively, he racks up steals, blocks and rebounds like they were nothing. Worth taking a look at if the team gets that Memphis pick.
Sullinger gets a ridiculous amount of defensive attention and barely saw the ball because of it. He looks like he's still carrying some excess weight he could lose but he seems to work hard on both ends of the floor and is a much better passer then I thought. He very rarely makes a mistake.
Barnes gets a lot of flak for his stats but he's actually pretty good. The team barely runs any plays for him, except for a weird, useless ISO that even Kobe would struggle scoring off, but he works really well on defence. He's always aware of what's happening and makes really good decisions, which is sadly usually put down by his team mates. For example, he was guarding McCamey on the perimeter late in the game. McCamey passed the ball to Richmond in the corner. Barnes knows that McCamey has been making 3s all game so doesn't leave him. However, NOBODY on his team bothers to pick up Richmond who passes up the open shot for a dunk. If I were him I'd be ready to get out of there as soon as possible, Williams is ridiculously overrated as a coach.

Which is really not a good thing at all as far as NBA prospects go.
He's nothing like Bargnani, i don't know where hotshotschamp came of with that comparison.
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.

Yeah Montiejunas is much more like Bargnani. Valancuinas reminds me of Fran Vazquez.

I've only seen a couple of youtube highlight videos, but he reminded me of Biedrins.

I haven't seen much either. Valancius is a bean pole like Biedrins, but I think he is much more active offensively then him.

I wonder, if Flynn gets moved does anyone think they might take another point guard to develop behind Ridnour and eventually replace him?
Irving is better then good

Would Plumlee be a good fit for this system at PF/C. I know people will be quick to say he isn't big enough to play C, but we've been going smallball when Darkos not in anyways. I think he'd be nice with the Mem pick.
Also, Irving is much better than I thought he was.

Roy Williams is a crappy coach. His teams plays 0 defense. He's a great recruiter but he can't coach. There's a reason he couldn't win the big one.
I want Perry Jones on the Wolves. But I also want a sg who can get his own shot.
Looking forward I don't know if I see Beasley as a true #1. His handles are average, he doesn't look to pass at times, and his defense is lazy half the time. It'd be nice if we could use Beasley as a trade chip when we get shafted in the lotto for either Barnes or Jones. Jones reminds me of kg coming out a lot. We would probably need to lose Love though.

I still think Alec Burks is going to be a stud. He's averaging over 20 points and he has no outside shot right now. One thing you look for in a college player that usually translates to the NBA is getting to the foul line. Burks is average 9.2 FTA per game right now.. Maybe we could grab him by combining the Memphis and Utah picks?

I'm not going to lie, I've considered keeping the Australian over the Spaniard. I think Irving will produce more than he already has in the next few weeks. If Irving is the BPA, we have a great problem on our hands.

I've got to agree. Irving looks like a little slice of awesome. The most impressive thing is that Duke is coming off a title, returned their POY candidate Singler along with Nolan Smith, who was huge for them down the stretch and could very well play Irving's position, brought in a hyped transfer in the backcourt (among others), and Irving's made it his team.
Jones has looked good as well, although it'll be tough for him to do the same to Baylor with Dunn around. Looking forward to seeing them go up against a legit team tomorrow when they face AZ State and Hopkins alum Trent Lockett (currently their leading scorer and shooting better from the field than the free throw line, 65.5% to 57.6%).
I know it's not the prevailing opinion, but I like this draft. It isn't as stocked with big men as last year's, but the guards are much better.
"A while back,'' Cardinal said, "I took a picture of the standings and texted it to Love, just to bust his chops,'' Cardinal said. "He sent me a picture back of a snowdrift.''

Well I'll admit, he's looked a lot better since I wrote that comment. He seriously looks like the 2nd coming of Chris Paul.

I didn't want to be the first one to say it. He's number one on my board now. Nobody comes close to this guy. His shooting is ridiculous. .522 FG% .881 FT% .440 3P% and 1.76 PPS. He's not getting into foul trouble and he's keeping his turnovers low. That's a rookie who's 18 years old. It's not just that, he's only averaging 28.1 minutes per game. He's only going to get better before the season ends.
If we get the number one pick, watch as journalists make it seem like Kahn's in trouble because he might have to decide between Irving or Rubio. Don't worry guys, we won't have that problem since we never get the number one pick.

I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with the #1 pick in a draft were a PG is the unanimous pick at #1. I thought for sure we'd end up winning the lottery last year with Wall leading the pack. It'd be a good problem to have but everyone here knows the national media would get a good laugh out of Kahn/Wolves for drafting another PG, even if it is the right move.

i totally agree with you about burks i really think he can be a top ten pick.. he needs to hit the weight room and start to create for others aswelll.. i love perry jones however do you really think he can be a nba four? wouldnt the three postion be better for his skill sets to the highest level

Re: Prospect Watch Thread
It's funny how everyone gets so hard on all these prospects so early intot the season. Then every year we hype them all year until the draft. Then they enter the league and all these can't miss guys fizzle.
OMG OJ MAYO!!! Like a 2 guard Lebron!!
MICHAEL BEASLEY!! Melo 2.0???
HASHEEM THABEET!!! Dikembe 2.0????
EVAN TURNER!! Scottie Pippen 2.0???
DEMARCUS COUSINS!!!! Shaq meet Derrick Coleman?????
KYRIE IRVING!!! Chris Paul 2.0????
ZOMG!!
Let's temper the excitement a little bit, shall we fellas? It's a long season.

Re: Prospect Watch Thread
The problem is ALL of those prospects had some kind of flaw. Beasley was a tweener, Mayo is unathletic, Thabeet has the figure and IQ of a twig and Cousins had mental problems to go along with his ridiculous fouling rate. I don't remember anyone saying Turner was Pippen, usually it was Roy, but still it's too early to necessarily say he won't reach that potential.
Irving just doesn't have that flaw. His game is well rounded for a 10 year veteran, let alone a freshman in college, and he's got the right physical tools and mentality to be great. I'm not going to say he's the best thing since sliced bread yet and maybe he won't turn out to be as good as Chris Paul, but he plays a lot like him and has been hella good so far.
