Rookie of the Year watch

Post#1 » by keynote » Wed Dec 1, 2010 9:10 pm

With the recent article on the Wiretap, I figured it might be interesting to track Wall's primary competition for ROY honors.

http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... _november/

The New York Knicks’ Landry Fields and the Los Angels Clippers’ Blake Griffin today were named the Eastern and Western Conference T-Mobile Rookies of the Month, respectively, for games played from the start of the season (Oct. 26) through November.

Fields ranks fourth among rookies in scoring (10.8 ppg), second in rebounding (7.1 rpg), eighth in assists (1.6 apg) and second in field goal percentage (.544). He started all 19 games for the Knicks this season, leads all NBA guards in rebounds and is the only rookie in the top eight in scoring.

Griffin leads all rookies in scoring (20.2 ppg) and rebounding (11.6 rpg). He also ranks second in minutes per game (35.5 mpg), fourth in assists (2.6 apg) and third in field goal percentage (.520). On Nov. 20, Griffin scored 44 points, the most by a Clipper since Elton Brand scored that many in February, 2006. He also led the team with 15 rebounds and a season-high seven assists.

Fields' #s are pretty thin in comparison to Wall (18, 9, and 3.6, w/ 2.8 spg); Wall's injuries presumably cost him November honors.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

Griffin has no competition until Wall comes back.

Wall would be the front-runner if it weren't for the injuries.

I don't know about that. I think Blake Griffin looks like the frontrunner, even if Wall is healthy. Wall has to play better to take Griffin's spot.

Either way, the competition between the two for the award is going to be fierce if they can stay healthy. Both are putting up amazing, mind-boggling stats for rooks.

If the Wizards become competitive then Wall can win the award. The Clippers are going to be horrible. The bottom half of the east is subpar again so the Wizards somehow could end up with a pretty good record

Wall has some work to do when he comes back to take back his position as front runner. He will do it though. Griffin is playing amazing... but i think people are forgetting how awesome Wall was over the first 5 games and with that trip-dub.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Forget his position as front runner for ROY.

JWall will have a heck of a time winning back his position as starting pg for the Wizards given how well* Kirk Hiney is playing.

I know that was tongue in cheek, but there is no way Flip would do that. The fans would turn on him, even Ted. He would lose his job quicker than if he attended a media session in a Third Reich officer's regailia.

Fields is running away with the steal of the draft tag and Dark Horse for ROY, he had a double-double and 3 steals today.

That guy Fields has posted some amazing rebounding totals for a 6`7 guard. Even a game of 17.

Is it just me or are the individual rebound totals this season larger than they have ever been.. ?
