The Amazingly Sucky Washington Wizards Thread

Post#1 » by Jay81 » Fri Nov 26, 2010 3:55 am

This franchise sucks.

Ever since we won the championship in 1978 and then won 54 games the following year in 1979..here is what we have accomplished since the 1980.

1. 45-37 has been our best record since 1979 which occured 2004-2005. This is incredible! 8 flooking games over.500 has been our glory season since 1979!!

2. we have had 7 other seasons where we have won between 42-44 games. Usually when we have winning seasons, its 42-40. Most of these seasons occurred in the mediocre 80's.

3. Since 1979..we have had 10 seasons were we have won between 30-39 wins. A bunch of 35-47 type seasons

4. Since 1979.. 10 seasons where we have won fewer than 29

We suck. In almost 30 years, our best record has been 45-37.

This tells me we are probably the worst franchise in pro sports. That is really unbelivable. 30 Years folks

Well, he is a ballboy. Perhaps we can cut him some slack.

I think the championship in 77 and the appearances in the finals in 74 and 78 keep the Wizzard out of worst franchise status. Also, Abe and Susan made lots of money off MJ, Arenas, etc The Bullets' jersey and brand isn't the worst IMO. Abe was a long-time owner and was well-respected. The franchise has been stable and solvent financially for years. It's been in one area. The Verizon is a state of the art facility. The players, I mentioned MJ and Gil, have been high profile ones at times. Hardly the worst franchise, IMO.

HOWEVER, the quality of the team IN GENERAL over that time .... has been very sucky.

But Ji, I like to think of myself as incredibly loyal to a team that's not that great, but I enjoy the Wizards and being a fan of this sorry franchise/team/team's players.

This thread is ridiculous. Yes, the Wiz have sucked for 30 years. But, this is the first year for a new owner who has shown a willingness to build a team the right way. Give the new regime some time for christ sake.

I don't have a problem with the Wizards losing this year. I expected it. What I didn't expect is so many games so far with a lack of effort. I can understand frustration there, but its stupid to rant about how this francise is a losing franchise when, in my mind, it became a new franchise with Teddy at the helm.

In terms of worst franchises I would have to put the Raptors, Grizzles and Clippers "ahead" of the Wizards. Depending on how things go for the Nets and Cavs, they could move "ahead" of the Wizards in the suckiness rankings.

I think pretty much every team that won a championship since 1977, probably deserves to be ahead of the Wizards.

The Bullets have not been a winning franchise, to be sure. But, in comparison with the Redskins (who are just mortifying to root for) the Bullets were run first by a paragon of the community, and now by Ted who looks to really have a shot at improving the team. Somehow, the two feel completely different.

The "paragon of the community" also forgot how to run an organization in the 80s. Meanwhile, the Redskins are, WAY, WAY, WAY ahead of the Wizards right now. Why? Because while the Wiz have more talent, the Redskins finally have a coherent organizational structure, and the guy at the top doesn't tolerate losing, or bad attitude, or laziness for long.

There's a reason a 0-11 or 1-10 caliber team in regards to talent has 5 wins and is not mathematically eliminated from the playoffs 11 games in. Yes, the Skins have made some mistakes, but I'll take Allen/Shanny > Flip/Ernie 1000 times out of 1000, no, 1 million times out of 1 million.

Also, while we're at it, while I like Ted, this season is really, truly showing that "youth uber alles" does not work. Where are the Thunder? The Blazers (and don't bring up injuries, that braintrust had multiple chances to make a move to put them in contention, and they refused to because they were in love with their young talent, and now they'll have to blow up that entire operation yet again), and the Thunder might be headed in the same direction (they had the assets to make a play for, say, Boozer, but they refused, because of "youth uber alles"), Sacramento sucks and isn't going anywhere anytime soon, Minny sucks, etc.

The youth uber alles concept is most likely why we didn't try to bring back Singleton, and didn't try to sign a veteran to show the young guys the ropes. This locker room could really use some veteran leadership - Hinrich is solid but not a leader, and Arenas is, well, Arenas. Sign a guy to a 2 year contract, win some more games, establish a winning culture. You don't have to hamstring your cap space, but don't treat it as something that wins games for you on its own.

From what I can tell
underrating this team
can lead to refusal to
keep hope alive.

Just think about
it excites me!!!

What veteran do you have in mind? It has to be someone good enough to earn playing time, someone who is a leader, but also someone willing to sign on a short term deal on a really bad team. Guys like that don't grow on trees.

How to fix the Wizards:

[]Release Hilton Armstrong
[]Start Wall/Arenas backcourt
[]Give Kevin Seraphin more backup minutes for McGee
[]Trade Blatche for a real PF (Hopefully Jason Thompson)

Ridiculous. That isn't any kind of "fix". It's just the same team but with Thompson (a 2nd stringer on a bad team) replacing Blatche (a 1st stringer on a bad team).

And I don't get all the hate for Armstrong. Armstrong isn't good, but he's not terrible. He's about what one expects for a backup big man obtained for the vet minimum. In general, he handles his role fine.

Its a quick fix.

Thompson is a first stringer now and plays tougher than Blatche. There's no reason for Armstrong to be taking minutes from Seraphin. This is a rebuilding year so let the rookies play.
