I doubt we add any big name players this offseason. We have no money to work with other than to fill out the roster with cheap players, acording to the numbers Bruce L is reporting. We still need to add a 1B, however, so it will be interesting to see if we go after Pena or Berkman. I don't see what we'd have to give up for Gonzo as Boston would easily beat any offer we could put together. Rickets has made it clear he wants to build the farm system. Any deal for Gonzo would cost us everything good we have there.

White Sox sign Adam Dunn. Was a steep price but a good deal. It's pretty clear the Ricketts are going to be a cheap ownership group. We saw this with their cheap pick in the 1st round of the draft and we're continuing to see it now.

I thought the Ricketts were going to be different.

according to Bruce Levin, the Cubs may be closing in on signing Carlos Pena. I would be happy with a relatively cheap 1 or 2 year deal.

Pena's a good move. Has great power and is a solid fielder. a heck of a lot better than LaRoche, Overbay, or Davis (though we could still trade for him as a bench player and getting O'Day for pen would be great). He seems like a decent clubhouse guy and Jaramillo might be able to do something with him.

I blame the scouting director more than I blame ownership with that pick. That guy did the same thing when he was drafting under the previous regime.

I'd love to get Davis. He's the kind of high-upside guy we should be acquiring.

I'd love to get Darren O'Day moreso than Chris Davis. Think he'd be big for our bullpen.

As much as I love Fukudome I think if the Cubs can find the right deal they should trade him. He's making too much as a backup outfielder and if he starts you're taking away valuable playing time from Colvin.

Agree on Fukudome, but not sure how many takers there are even if we pay a good portion of the $14mill left.

Usually they release tickets in February. Keep checking Cubs.com once it gets close they'll have more info. Tickets shouldn't be too hard to get this year because there's nothing to get excited about but April 6th sounds like a game in the first week so it might be harder to get.

Thanks SportsWorld!

I have to try, because the last time I couldn't watch the Cubs. This time I have to take the chance!

http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/david-k ... -wood.html
The Cubs, who have a major need for a veteran right handed reliever are moving towards finalizing a deal with free agent Kerry Wood. Wood, who spent the first 10 years of his major league career with the Cubs spent 2010 with the Cleveland Indians and New York Yankees and compiled impressive numbers down the stretch for New York as the Yankees qualified for the post season.

Acquired by the Yankees at the trading deadline, Wood went 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA in 24 games. If he finalizes his deal with the Cubs, Wood should provide tremendous support to Cubs closer Carlos Marmol and along with left hander Sean Marshall will form a very formidable back end of the bullpen.

Wood has made Chicago his permanent home and told me just last week that whatever decision he made about where he would pitch in 2011 had to be a good fit for his family. Being able to stay home and his longtime relationship with Cubs general manager Jim Hendry are huge factors in the Cubs favor.
