Just stumbled upon this on twitter, thought I'd share (wasn't sure whether to put this in the offseason thread or not)

It would be nice if it was coming from a source outside of Toronto.

First off is this guy reliable. Second no way in hell are we giving up Drabek and Snider....they must be high on something.

I agree. I know many like Dagger (not that i want to put words in anyone's mouth) like the idea of flipping prospects for proven big league guys, but this trade would move 2 of our starters this year - a pitcher and your 5 hole hitter - for 1 starter. Yes Greinke is better now, but both Snider and Drabek have that fateful 'upside' whereas Greinke may even regress (just imho) and we get both Snider and Drabek for waaaaay cheaper than Greinke would cost. I agree we should be willing to move "prospects", but to me, you trade your prospects when there is still some doubt about their ability to make it to the bigs (have your trading partner assume some of the risk), not just as they are emerging as true major leaguers - perfect cheap and controllable contracts for now and then lock em up early ala Hill and Lind before they reach their full value as regulars.

more reasonable imo. jpa and drabek would be my preference if our scouts are still solidly behind D'Arnoud. maybe i just like Snider too much! lol

jpa and drabek.

i'm fine with that as greinke replaces drabek's spot in the rotation so i can live with that.

snider, hell to the no. that would not be a good move, greinke is not a sure thing. his issues make him pitching in ny and boston a potential nightmare. let alone the pressure of pitching in the a.l. east. he could very well flame out next year with the added pressure at the cost of our future.

It wouldn't be Drabek + Snider. If we were willing to give up that the deal would already be done.

I'm sure that from the royals perspective they're gonna want something similar or perhaps even more than what the sox gave up for Gonzales.

Looks like Drabek + Snider is the package the Royals want. I wouldnt trade Snider.

Greinke, who turned 27 two months ago, could probably be had for former No. 1 picks Kyle Drabek and Travis Snider and some minor leaguers.

Wouldn’t that be a sudden turn of events? A year ago this week the foundation was laid to send Roy Halladay to the Philadelphia Phillies for three prospects, the best of which being Drabek.

And now this week Drabek is the man the Royals want as the Jays try to acquire another ace.

I'm with the majority, JPA and Drabek and I'd pull the trigger... Drabek and some other prospects I'd likely strongly consider it... but not snider. We need his bat moving forward.

But good pitching beats good hitting, so I have no problem with us picking up an upper tier starter. Really I think Toronto is an ideal location for a guy like Greinke. Though I am skeptical of his ability to pitch in a big game in Bos/NY should the jays find themselves in the race.

Sounds like everyone's on the same page. Thinking back to the Halliday trade, with Drabek being a constant, we got D'Arnaud and Wallace, and now to get Greinke they want Snider. Wallace is nothing special, and i'd take Snider over D'Arnaud anyday. So essentially, KC wants more for Greinke than we got for Halliday.

I think Drabek, JPA and a couple of add ons like Thames and that first baseman in double AA whose name i forget (1st rounder 2007). Ton of potential in this package.

I still think JPA and Drabek is more than enough considering these two are major league ready. I have a feeling AA is trying to squeeze a prospect or two out of this deal like the Kila whale, Alex Gordon or someone in the lower minors.

If you look at the big picture, in the end, that basically mean:

- Roy Halladay
- Travis Snider

for

- Zack Grienke
- Anthony Gose
- Travis D'Araud

:o

-------------------------------------------------------------

We'd be losing out. Thats not a good deal, "over all"

I am all for Snider in any deal. Then add one of the others as main pieces. :) work from there. I don't think Snider listens and is hard to coach.

Greinke is very good and has the potential to be great. But so did AJ when we overpayed for that guy. I know those are different scenarios but you get my point on that. I just don't see the reason to try to unload the whole farm for Greinke. The D'Backs tried the samething with us and we didn't budge, so I doubt this Greinke thing will play out.

Source

The Blue Jays have contacted the Royals about a trade for right-hander Zack Greinke, and the Royals are intrigued by what the Jays might offer, according to major-league sources.

Here’s the problem: The Jays are on Greinke’s no-trade list, meaning that he cannot be sent to Toronto without his permission.

That fact alone does not preclude a trade: Players frequently waive no-trade clauses, usually in exchange for some kind of contractual benefit.

Greinke, sources say, has told the Royals that he is willing “to go anywhere.”

Other clubs, however, are skeptical of that stance.
