Loss to Nuggets leaves Clippers with a foul taste

Post#1 » by mkwest » Sun Dec 5, 2010 9:23 am

They knew that Denver shot plenty of free throws but not that the Nuggets relocated there and practically took up permanent residence on the line Friday night.

"Fifty-nine free throws, bro," one of the Clippers said in the locker room after the Nuggets beat them, 109-104, at Pepsi Center.

The number circulated around the room and the Clippers could only shake their heads and almost laugh in disbelief. It was a better choice than tears after they lost for the ninth time in nine road games.

"I experienced Denver playing at home, at its finest," said Clippers rookie Blake Griffin, at his laconic best. "It's tough, man. How many free throws did they shoot?"

Reporters, in unison: "Fifty-nine."

Chris Kaman, who played in his first game in more than three weeks because of a sprained left ankle, had more disheartening information for Griffin.

Kaman: "To our 29."

Griffin: "You know, that says it all right there. Fifty-nine to 29."

Kaman: "What about Carmelo [Anthony] not having any fouls till…"

Griffin: "Whatever. I'm not going to say anything."

I really don't like how the refs called that game. We had way too many missed calls on our end, I can only hope the game against Portland goes better.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

There were also some strange calls ALL game, especially in the 4th . It seemed like every time the Clips rallied, Denver would be at the line. One time w/5 minutes left the call was so bad Del Negro called a t/o, so he could talk to the ref who made the call.
Lets face it, we won't get any REFFING bias until David Stern tells the refs we are a Premiere team.

I'm kinda glad I missed this game since it seemed to be so terribly called as you all say. 59 free throws is definitely questionable. I know some of our guys are a little foul prone, but that's just a ridiculous amount.

Seriously, no respect! I remember back when Cassell could talk the refs into reversing a call!

That's just not right, when games are possibly "directed" by the head office. Reminds me a bit of Game 6 of the 2002 WCF between the Lakers and the Kings, when the Lakers went to the line 27 times in the 4th quarter, and end up winning by a small margin.

I really think we have a legitimate shot at beating the Blazers, and would be disappointed if we don't, especially since it seems like we're somewhat turning the corner, and most of our guys are back.
