OT: Jayson Werth headed to... Washington!

Sources said on Sunday afternoon that Werth's agent Scott Boras was close to a deal with the Washington Nationals on a multiyear contract. Terms of the deal were unclear, but the Nationals figure to have money to spend after losing free agent Adam Dunn to the Chicago White Sox. Werth would help replace Dunn's bat in the middle of the Nats' lineup.

nice.. now lets just hope the Gonzales deal falls apart and that Carl Crawford and Cliff Lee stay outta the AL East and we should have a good shot next year.

The Werth contract has had an impact of an 8.0 earthquake. Rival gms, execs are going nuts about the terms.

Carl Crawford gonna get paid.

I cant blame Washington for the deal because you eventually need to get someone. They had to overpay to establish themselves as a free agent destination. Baltimore probably has to do the same thing for a couple of guys because they arent on anyone's radar right now.

Between this and the ridiculous Tewlowitski deal, something is going terribly wrong this offseason. Yes, this is going to have horrible repercussions around the league. Even Jeter's deal at 3/60 give or take is lousy, but of course Jeter and NY have a special relationship. Yikes! The small market teams are **** their pants.

Interestingly, a few contracts like this may motivate teams like KC to move their high profile players (Grienke) because there is no way they can afford to sign them when they become free agents.

Going to be interesting to see what Lee and Crawford get. Going to further scare the crap out of KC!

Interesting you bring this up, but deals like this start to bring Vernon's deal back into play. Can't remember the details on his deal, but wouldn't we rather have Vernon and his deal than Werth and his deal? I'm thinking yes. A few more of these and Vernon may be somewhat tradeable.....

What a horrific deal...enjoy paying $20m+ to a 38 year old Werth, Washington, because you're never moving that contract.
