Well that was pretty stupid actually on the part of the drum squad decision makers. Marion was close to averaging 22/12/2/2/2(Jesus Christ) that season on 53% shooting. Amare was averaging 0...in everything.

And they chose to rep Amare over Marion?

If we had traded Amare for KG in 2007, we could have had a team of:

Nash/Barbosa
Bell/Hill
Marion/Jones
KG/Diaw
KT/Burke/Who cares

Nash in his prime + Marion in his prime + KG = win.

I still maintain we should have traded Amare for KG.

As someone who met both Amare and Marion, I sometimes wonder how accurate the accusations of Marion's locker room behavior are. Amare was always a prick. Marion was always friendly and generous.

Marion's only fault (in my eyes) was that he could not see that his numbers were inflated in our system and he was stupid to demand a max deal. Then again, maybe he had a right to demand a max deal considering he and Nash almost lead us to a championship in 2006 while Amare watched from the sidelines. Marion actually played defense and rebounded.

My favorite memory of Marion is game 5 of the 2005-2006 playoff series against the Clippers in Phoenix.

36 points, 20 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 turnover....and 55 minutes.

Why is KT on your projected squad? He still would have been dealt to the Sonics for money reasons(same with Jones going to Portland).

Amare + KG is much more imposing than Marion + KG. Basically we're comparing the following line-ups

Nash/Banks
Bell/Barbosa
Hill/Pie
Amare/Diaw
KG/Skinner

vs

Nash/Banks
Bell/Barbosa
Hill/Pie
Marion/Diaw
KG/Skinner

And take into account the Suns still wouldn't have given Marion the contract he wanted and he started showing signs of slowing down that year.

From everything I ever saw or read Marion was a very affable guy, greta with fans, good teammate mostly, but as someone said, very insecure about his perceived role and contribution and eventually couldn't' handle it, nor could the team handle the necessary jollying and reassuring he required - really a shame

He did all that while matching up with Brand/Kaman sometimes, Cassell/Maggette other times.

We would have had better defense, better rebounding, better chemistry, and better clutch play with Marion and KG.

Marion still wouldn't have gotten his extension(reason he was being shopped in the first place) so I don't see how he wouldn't have been a problem chemistry wise. Amare has made a living scoring off the ball so I don't see a conflict there.

Just look at what Marion and Amare have done the past couple years and thus far this season, it's pretty easy to see who has the bigger impact. Don't see how a front court rotation of Marion/KG/Diaw matches up better with Gasol/Bynum/Odom than Amare/KG/Diaw.

Great player! And definitely should be a ring of honor member. It was really sad for me to see him go. I really don't what he was like in the locker room as long as he performed on the court, which he did for us every time out.

If you think Amare isn't clutch you should see Marion try to score in the closing minutes because that guy has almost zero go to moves aside from the little runner that he likes to shoot or the open 3 pointer.
Amare has come up with some clutch 3's this season for some reason when the rest of the Knicks were bricking shots. I've always said that Amare should attempt a couple 3's per game and extend the range on his jumpshot.

on back to back yrs like that, it is easy to understand Marion's attitude, especially since he became the centerpiece in trade talks. Which is not surprising... who wouldn't want such a player ???

Shawn Marion did things nobody else in the league could.

Wasn't there a stretch in March some time(either 05/06 or 06/07) where he just went NUTS for like 5 games? I remember 30/20s or something...I find it sad that I can't remember anymore but that was 4-5 years ago.

I'd love for him to end his career here.
