He only played significant minutes in ONE GAME and played GREAT.

vs. Bucks DNP
1st game played vs Mavs 7 minutes 2 pts (1-2) , 2 assists, 1 reb, 1 blk , no TO's
vs. Wiz... 17 minutes 5 pts (2-4), 5 assists, 4 rebs, 1 TO.
vs. Raps DNP
vs. Mavs DNP
vs. Magic played 2 minutes ZEROS
vs. Raps DNP
vs. IND DNP

He only played 26 minutes in the entire preseason. But looked REALLY GOOD in the one game where he actually played and the few minutes got in the the other he looked very good.

No, he looked bad, he isn't a pro basketball player. You think there may be a reason he played so few minutes, ended up in the D-League, and is still stuck there?

We signed a guy who was sitting on his butt doing nothing (not even playing in the D League cause he wore out his D League eligibility and SUCKED doing it) and then came in and lost a game for us. I can guarantee you right now that Kyle Weaver is FAR, FAR better in every aspect of basketball- ball handling, passing, shooting and especially defending, than John Lucas III. If you can honestly say you would rather have Lucas III on the end of the bench, then............. OK, I guess.

Just sayin he's better than Lucas and has potential. I watched him for OKC in a few REAL NBA games and he looked good to me then. He looked good in the 26 minutes he played for us in preseason and SEVERAL DOZEN posters here all commented how good he passed and handled the ball and how good his FLOOR GAME actually looked.

Potential for what? Sit on the end of the bench? Okay. Somebody needs to keep bench warm and cheer for Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah. I guess who couldn't be any worse at that than John Lucas. Let's sign him.

How Can Being 6'6' with the ability to play both Gaurd positions, playing decent to good defense, and average 25ppg/ 9rebs/ 5apg... Shooting 48% FROM 3...! Not Be Potential...?.?

48% 3pt Shooting alone, makes him potential... As compared to a Lucas... Why Would we not want someone with some type of potential on the injured reserve...? Why have a scrub just because he may never play... WHY?.? They may as well sign me if that's the case... I Thought the point was to have as many highest of quality players as possible...

Saying Kyle Weaver has more potential than JL3 is not really saying much.

I watched every preseason game and he played well. I don't know what you are talking about. His floor game looked better than both Watson and Lucas'. He played good D. The reason he is not on the team has to do with attitude, not skillset. The guy was late to practice a couple times, which is not smart for a guy trying to make the team.

This Is Something I Was UnAware Of...

This is a much better explanation for him not getting signed then... He's a terrible player...

No way Bogans puts up those numbers in the D League...!

Oh And John Lucas?.? No Further Comments On Him...

It's disappointing really. I mean, he could have helped us. He has the skillset, though unfortunately not the right mindset.

It's funny cause I had this same argument we're having about Weaver with someone a few years ago about Shannon Brown when the Bulls had him. Love him in college and he looked really good in Summer League.. now everybody is saying we should have went after him in free agency. ???? oh, well.. we can disagree on this one.

I agree with taking a chance on T Will for a 2nd round pick.. although, he is supposedly uncoachable... but Avery Johnson, aka, the Little General, might just clash with him and that could change... wouldn't be the first time a player benefitted from a change of scenery and new coach. If he ever gets his head on straight, he could be just what this team needs. Better chance than most any 2nd rounder would.

He definitely looked good in the preseason for us, i know he was late for practice but i'll give him another chance if he doesn't learn fine him. He might give you a better production than Bogans.

Not "Clamoring"... I Love The Bulls As Is... 1 Of The Few People Who Actually Think We're Good Enough To Win The Ring This Year...!

Just trying to understand in terms of talent/potential... why this guy isn't on our roster...

Apparently the answer is attitude problems... Not Skill Set... Makes alot more sense to me now...

Although I'd still personally take the convict with the skills over the scrub that was on time...

But 2 each his own I Guess...

He's played 68 games and averaged 19mpg for a career. For every time he gets you an assist (which will be one assist a game) he will get you a turnover. But i guess his 4ppg on 44% shooting make up for that.

And if you really don't want to listen to me when I say he is a garbage NBA player, well, you can listen to the rest of the NBA's GMs. If you can scoop up a viable piece of your roster for 800k, you do it. There is a reason he's balling in the D-League.

No need to do any "scouring" ...

Kyle Weaver is on our own Iowa Energy affiliate, averaging 19 ppg, 6 rpg, and 5 apg in the D League.

His last two games.....

32, 13, 5

30, 8, 8

He looked great in PS and is tearing up the D-League. He CAN create shots for himself (and for teammates) He has played in 67 NBA games, started 19, for OKC. shot good %'s from the field and from 3 pt. 6'6", long, athletic, 200 lbs (prototypical NBA SG)

What could be wrong with this guy? Is he just that much of an idiot? I know KC reported he was late for a practice(s) and/or meeting(s).. I mean, is this a chronic problem? WTF?

I posted this in another thread a few minutes before you posted this OP. I'm wondering just how bad this problem is/was, has been. A lot can happen that we don't know about that made him "persona non grata". Maybe he failed a drug test? The players get one fail and a warning, but the team knows about it and we don't hear about it. Happens ALL THE TIME. just speculating.... but there could be a lot of reasons...

Lets not pretend that the D-League has a shorter 3pt line...he would get playing time based on his shooting alone. He doesnt have the skillset to be in the NBA? How do you explain Bogans playing 12 minutes a game? Come on guys.

He had a pretty decent rookie season for OKC and competed with Thabo for minutes. It's not like he's some wretch who was never able to get NBA minutes. I tend to think the disciplinary problems are what kept him off the roster as much as anything.

Yeah, if it's a discussion based purely on talent, he's a viable option. D-leaguers on the bubble of the NBA have found success - Matt Barnes, C.J. Watson, Chris Andersen, Kelenna Azubuike, Chuck Hayes, among others - so while they're there for a reason, there's precedent for them becoming NBA rotation players. Theoretically, that's what the NBDL is for.

Weaver has established he can play in the NBA. But chronic lateness will get you every time.

LOL, nice one. There's a glaring loophole in the Chewbacca defense.

They do not have the skillset to make it in the NBA as full time players. The exceptions are few and far between. Eddie Basden does not bring Lazerus back from the dead.

If the Bulls want or need to upgrade the shooting guard, they will have to make a trade, period. No D-Leaguer has the talent or the capability.

Now, something REALLY simple we can do is waste a 2nd round pick on Terrence Williams who is a first round talent. He had some problems in New Jersey, but other players have been in rough situations and climbed out of it. There is an example of a high reward, low risk kind of players you can acquire.

New Orleans also has Marcus Thorton and are in the midst of a slide. They may be willing to make a deal. Also, I like Corey Brewer in Minnesota. With Martell Webster sure to come back eventually, they may be willing to make a deal there for Brewer (a friend and former teammate of Joakim).

Those are your low-cost options as I see them.

Your higher cost options are your Mayo and Melo who this board has debated and discussed ad nauseum.

All of these guys can make an impact and have the ability to play in the NBA. Kyle Weaver cannot.

Again, Eddie Basden does not turn water into wine. If Chewbacca lives on Endor, then you must acquit.

Shannon Brown... :o

There have been many D league players that are now rotation players in the league, to discount the league like you are dong is just ignorant. Weaver is easily better than Lucas and perhaps Bogans.

you do realize that he does want a spot in the league right? he could of gone overseas and made 10x as much money. I believe D-league players only earn about 30,000 usd.

Every think that maybe one or mistakes was enough to gives Thibs the power to choose his "man" in Lucas. Think outside of the box for second people.
