Tolliver will be out for a while.

Post#1 » by NewWolvesOrder » Sun Dec 5, 2010 2:45 pm

Found this on another board:

from espn player profile

News: Tolliver will soon have an MRI on his injured knee, but is out indefinitely. "It's substantial," head coach Kurt Rambis told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "He's going to be out awhile."

I feel bad for AT but I think it opens up minutes for Beasley to play more PF. I'm yet to be convinced that MB is at his best playing SF. At least now we'll have an oppurtunity to compare Beasley playing significant minutes at both positions and get a good read on what Beasley really is. I hope his ankle injury is not serious and he's back to the lineup soon.

Feel bad for Tolliver, his energy off the bench this year has been invaluable. We've got plenty of cover at PF though. Beas, Love and even Darko/Pek could be put there. He'll be missed.

I really want to see how Johnson plays at small forward. He set a career high in points when he started at small forward. It was only one game, but lets see what he can do.

Its too bad for AT but I feel like his whole game is about working hard; he'll come back as the same guy.

However it is an opportunity for some of the younger guys to play. Last night (with a huge lead) we even saw Hayward/Brewer at the 3/4 with Gaines, Pek, and Ellington on the floor. Injuries suck, but since it is relatively small (to us), and we are not concerned about wins, it might be a blessing in disguise.

Hmmm .. we got Toliver from GSW. If he's out for a while, any interest in Brewer-for-Brandan Wright?

They have near identical expiring contracts. Not a perfect solution, but ..

Not much interest. Just give Beasley some minutes at PF. Wes Johnson might profit from that as well.

Man, I'm just glad we have Pek back. Koufos has done pretty well, but I am excited for Pek to develop, and that will only happen with playing time.

So are whistle manufacturers across Minnesota.

I guess this means we will be seeing Beas play more backup minutes at the 4 and have Snipes play more at his natural position.

It sucks, but it does open up time for beasley at PF and gives webster/brewer more time on the court. I hope to see something like this...

Darko (32) - Pek (16)
Love (32) - Beasley (16)
Beasley (16) - Johnson (24) - Webster (8)
Johnson (6) - Brewer (24) - Webster (18)
Flynn (30) - Ridnour (18)

I think Tolliver functions as a motivation tool for the more "talented" players on the roster. Rambis knows that Tolliver will come in and play solid d, hit open shots, and hustle. If Beasley, Love, Johnson, etc don't perform, Rambis he knows he can count on him. The other players therefore have to keep pushing to improve their game and limit mistakes.

I'm pretty interested to see that, especially if Webster comes back soon and plays significant time at the 2.

I think that was more because Beasley wasn't there so he knew he had to be aggressive then him playing SF, but it'll definitely be interesting to see some different lineups. Maybe we'll see some Darko-Pekovic front courts too.

But seriously, can this team catch a break? Flynn and Webster have been out, Tolliver is gone for a while now, Pekovic is still recovering, Ridnour and Telfair have both had foot injuries and even Beasley has had his fair share. Yuck.

As far as injuries go this one doesn't really beat me up that bad.
Flynn, Webster and Beasley NEED to get healthy, personally I think Tolliver is a 10 mpg guy (for this team) I like a 3 big man rotation of Darko, Pek and Love. I'd rather get those guys minutes than anything else. tollivers good for a spell and has helped us through some stretches but overall we are trying to develop our core and I don't think he's part of it.
Having said that I think the guy could be a way more important piece on plenty of other teams and he seems like a good locker room guy so I hope he gets well soon (6-8 weeks :( )

Actually I think this one is going to sting. Pek isn't ready for extended minutes yet and there isn't anyone else on the the team as a backup PF excepy maybe Beasley, and he's really better suited at SF. Tolliver doesn't have the upside of Pek but he is smart, plays defense, and provides good energy off the bench. I hope he isn't out too long.

I really like what Tollipop's brought to the table this season. Plays energetic d, has a knack for taking charges, and knocks down open shots (highest TS% and PPS on the team, I believe). Too bad he's going to be out 6-8 weeks according to the WT.

Seeing him play this year, I'm surprised some playoff team didn't pick him up, his game is well suited to playing a role similar to the one Robert Horry played late in his career.

I'm in a 20 team deep Fantasy league and in need of PF/C help. Sorry to sound like a vulture but I saw this new on the wire and thought potential waiver wire opportunity. Johnson and Pekovic might both be available in my league though I'd have to double-check. Between the two, who stands to gain more from this injury situation?

The only reason I'm thinking Johnson is because Beasley might be asked to play more 4 now resulting in more time for Johnson.

Any insight you guys have would be appreciated.

This is more than likely what's going to happen. Pekovic isn't a safe bet either way, though, because he fouls too much to get more minutes.
