Re: OT: Talk of Hornets to Anehiem/ San Diego?
when are people going to understand that just because San Diego is a big city that it doesn't mean they can afford a new pro team. the city is broke and will lose the Chargers if they don't get their finances straight. San Diego shouldn't be on that list.

Las Vegas....book it, they have the resources, area to build a new arena, plus it's another form of entertainment in the city. It's a Laker town but the Hornets could attract a following as long as they have star power.

Seattle! The thunder were robbed by a lie during purchase and the arena stuff was secondary. Seattle all the way. Vegas would be interesting, but Seattle fans were screwed by rich a-holes and deserve a team.

If the Sonics are coming back, it's going to be soon.

sprint center in kansas city is nba ready. Seattle still hasn't built an arena?.. And aneheim as someone mention is lakers country. Choice is pretty simple. That's a nice arena .. i'd put it on top of orlando's new place

Re: OT: Talk of Hornets to Anehiem/ San Diego?
I just hope the team goes to a totally new City... heck MOVE THEM TO EUROPE!!...
That whole Oklahoma City ordeal was good for the League...new fresh raucous fans.. fresh unis, fresh vibe, expansion (sorry Seattle
)... anyway... new city, new blood. That's what i want to see.
heck.. even go to South America... Argentina, Brazil, or... South Africa, Australia...lol... Let's make this thing a real world championship. Kinda sounds (Please Use More Appropriate Word) when they keep saying "world championship"... Well David Stern... here's your chance to continue to evolve the league into an international league!

It won't be Vegas because they got no arena and with the way the their hurting from the down economy building an arena doesn't seem to be a concern. Anaheim makes sense but I have to agree with other people who posted the Clippers if they ever get a new owner should move there. KC seems like the best choice because they have a great looking arena which if a team goes could be one of the best looking arenas in the league. Personally I hope they stay in NO that city has been threw enough the NBA shouldn't let those people lose one of their sports teams hopefully they find an owner from NO that knows the fan base and how to get the people out to watch a pretty good team.

I know it's not like the Saints are leaving town but still a big hit.
I don't think the Hornets would thrive financially in the Los Angeles or Orange County Area.
The Clippers revunue isn't that great itself.
It's not like their selling out every night.
You could get seats three rows behind the bench for 150 bucks on some games.
Clipper Home of Course.
Las Vegas would be something special and no they would not be using the Thomas and Mack.
Too much history in that arena it belongs all to the Runnin Rebels of UNLV.
They would build a new arena no doubt, and for investors you know Vegas got that on lock.
The clippers are quite profitable, and not only that, but the hornets wouldn't be sharing a building with the lakers. There's plenty of market to be had in anaheim and SD. I'm not saying I want new orleans to lose their team (i dont) I"m just saying business wise I can see where they would be coming from.

More "home" games for the Lakers if they move to Disneyland.

Re: OT: Talk of Hornets to Anehiem/ San Diego?

Operation Keep Paul with Hornets Continues...
Ok in the past few hours the dreamers have slowly revealed their hands and the REAL contenders for the Hornets have started to emerge. So far Anaheim/ San Diego is still in play where destinations like KC, NO, Mexico(?), and Vancouver have taken a backseat in the preliminary negotiations with the NBA.
SoCAL - It seems that SoCal is definitely in the mix. Reason being Chargers seem to be determined to get to the Anaheim area. What would this mean? Money is free and flowing in SoCal for sports if the NFL lands first, the NBA is afraid that SoCal natives will be come satisfied. Having completed its desire to land football again. Thus making Hornets franchise irrelevant in Anaheim but opens doors in San Diego. Why? Cos SD would would still have money and the desire to support a team.
In order to leave SD Charges have to pay a fee to the city of SD. Correct me if I am wrong but with the dissolved Chargers monies could be used to lure the Hornets, to SD to fill in the void. Which would mean a new gym or renovated arena in SD for the Hornets. Everyone wins in California. Looks great on politicians and Chargers get to move to LA with little friction.
Seattle Fans should watch CNBC a bit more and pay more attention to Wall-street Journal's twitter feed. Microsoft Exec Steve Ballmer known NBA fan just recently sold a billion(thats with a B!) in stock. Wonder what intends to do with it?

Lou - However, during these past hours since my initial post another REAL player has emerged in the Hornets sweepstakes. Kentucky! Thats right former home of the (ABA) Kentucky Colonels 1967-1976. A pre-NBA team that refused to join the NBA in 1976. Its ill fated decision NOT to join the NBA lead to its missing out on the past expansion some say. Not to mention missing out on the Hornets 1st move from Charlotte> You throw in the BobCats for good measure and you begin to see that this decision has left KY out in the cold for years as far as pro basketball is concerned.
A billionaire financier has been identified as promising the world to Stern if Louisville is to become Hornets new home. No word on who this is. But if you are from the Louisville/ Cincinnati, OH area you have heard that Donald Trump and a few rich friends find Louisville ripe for gambling. He could promise the Hornets in exchange for Gambling permits.... My speculation.

In an interview Wednesday Miller said he has a majority investor interested in buying a franchise and moving the team here. He said 15 to 25 potential minority investors are also interested, but he wouldn’t name any of them.
“There’s only two ways to get this done: acquire an existing franchise or get an expansion franchise,” Miller said. “You don’t get either one if you don’t have a behemoth investor. What’s different this time is we have our own billionaire — who is among the richest people in the world.”

KC is probably a close 4th option behind Vegas, LA, L'ville...

Chicago is speculated at looking into duplicating Los Angeles' success with successfully supporting 2 NBA teams. Honestly there are about 6 to 12 NCAA teams in the area!!! Don't you think they get enough Basketball!? You keep dreaming CHICA-GO!

Re: OT: Talk of Hornets to Anehiem/ San Diego?
The argument I keep hearing now is - "Who wants to live in K.C." or "Players would rather play on the west coast or some place like Chicago."
If it comes down to that... Hmm I dunno. Can you REALLY see a star besides Durrant happy in Oklahoma!? Besides B. Griff!

Re: OT: Talk of Hornets to Anehiem/ San Diego?
Vegas built two big ass hotels in a down economy, don't doubt them on an arena. The league knows they can build one, that alone is enough for Stern.KingLakers wrote:It won't be Vegas because they got no arena and with the way the their hurting from the down economy building an arena doesn't seem to be a concern. Re: OT: Talk of Hornets to Anehiem/ San Diego?
it needs to be a city that is a proven basketball town. look at oklahoma city-- they were a big basketball town because of NCAA. also, those fans proved that they will come out and support a basketball team when the hornets only played there part time, and they are doing a great job supporting the thunder. from that respect i'd say vegas is definitely one town that has shown, because of the success of summer league, that they will turn out and support a team similar to how OKC did.
