Some Cs the Pacers Should Target

Post#1 » by Wizop » Wed Dec 8, 2010 9:15 pm

The power forward thread gets longer and longer. I do not think that is the primary need. I think we need a backup to Roy. I think Stanko is signed in Europe with a high enough buy-out that will keep him there a while. So what are other options? Could be free agents, could be trades, could be college players you think will be available in the draft. Ideas?

Kedrick Perkins would be ideal. Shaq for a year LOL!

Re-sign Foster?

Shaq is done, and Foster might be, also. I would love to see Perkins, but I don't think he's a bench C.

Solomon Jones looks pretty active in some games now. I don't think it's a bad idea to re-sign him.

Foster didn't show up much this season. I wonder will he retire next year.

Stanko Barac is still rough and thin. I think he will play in Europe for couple of years.

Erazem Lorbek could be the choice. His low-post step could help the Pacers attacking the paint while Hibbert is on the bench.

It's the other way around Foster is done, and Shaq might be if he chooses to. It's not even close.

I agree with Perkins, but do you think teams will take a chance on him. I do, which would make it hard to get him. I don't think the Celtics are gonna let him go.

Perkins would be too expensive as a backup for Hibbert, and honestly too good. You wouldn't get full value for what you paid at all. Neither of them could really play any PF either. I'm sure other teams will make a better offer.

there are a couple of young Lithuanian centers that should be in the draft.

Wouldn't say Shaq is done, he's playing very well for the Celtics in his role there. Granted, no way we'd ever sign him I was making a joke. But still.

Yep, Foster has lost a lot over the last couple of seasons.

I think Solo, McBob, or even Hansbrough denies Bogut on the tip. The ball wasn't that high and Foster had great position, he just couldn't elevate. It was quite sad. The only possibility of losing, and we give them the backdoor for the tip.

The Pacers need to develop a killer's instinct, literally. It works.

I'm actually not convinced Indy needs to go after a big-splash backup center. If we so, I say get a guy like Nene who can play both 4 and 5.

But McBob can play the 5 at times (depending on the matchup), so if we managed to get a starter-worthy 4 like a David West, Jeff Green or whoever, then I say slide McBob into the 5 and have him at least share the bench 5 role. Then maybe with the second round pick in the draft, select a 5 if there's one there and slowly bring him along. If it pans out, awesome! You can never have too much height in the NBA. If it doesn't pan out, bummer...but it only will have cost us likely a cheap non-fully guaranteed contract and 2 years at most.

Is Portland ready to give up on Oden?

If so, and we could get him (taking the chance that he could stay healthy) could Roy play PF?

No, but Oden could if he got down to 265-260. Maybe in the 250's, but that's not likely. He'll probably drop some weight while he's rehabbing to put less pressure on his knee.

Roy Hibbert will never, ever, ever be able to play PF. He might score alright, but the vice versa would be true, and Roy would also get fouls super super fast.

There's no reason to even discuss moving Hibbert to PF.

Agree with the killer instinct, but I think anyone would have struggled to get that ball. The play was brilliant - they actually picked Foster. They picked for their C. Foster was far enough behind after rolling around the pick that he had no chance to get there and stop the play. I don't think anyone gets around that pick fast enough to get to the ball...
Plus, it was a beautiful pass. A perfect pass really.

Quite true. Indy ought to try to snatch A Randolph from the Knicks. He's underweight (for now) yet about Camby's size. Has the ability to play PF + some SF. Really needs playing time, but Indy is no contender so finding minutes for him ( and Hansborough + George) can be done.

I like the idea of targeting a center. If we were able to bring in a starting quality center I'd be happy to try the twin towers aproach and start him along side Roy. Let other teams worry about matching up with us. Of course JOB would have to go unless our centers couldn't stretch the floor.
Kaman could be had, McGee might be a possiblility but both players would come at a price of giving up young players or taking back a bad contract. I'd be happy with NENE who could easily play the 4 or 5 and Denver may be in rabid rebuild mode once Melo is traded. Nene could come at a decent price and I think he'd still have 3-4 years left playing at a high level.
