Terrance Willams and the Playoffs

Post#1 » by theballbrain » Wed Dec 8, 2010 7:28 pm

Couldnt help but notice he put up Lebron like numbers in the D-Leauge. Ok fine it was the D-Leauge but still very impressive considering he could have easily walked in with a poor attitude.

As for the playoffs...The Nets are the last placed team in East. BUT only two and a half games out of the 8th seed. Not all is lost yet Net Fans....I still can watch..for now.

If this team makes the playoffs this year, every Net fan should jump off a bridge because this team has serious roster flaws. Making the playoffs is literally the LAST thing a fan of this team should want, regardless if it makes the team more desirable for free agents this summer.

That's fine. But watch as this team gets swept out of the first round. You play to win the championship, or at the very least have a deep run in the playoffs, not a tertiary team that screws itself. Plus, its not like I'm calling for them to tank, I'm just saying that if they catch lightning in a bottle and somehow make the playoffs, this team is screwed.

That's why Avery should concentrate in developing our young guys since this is NOT the year to aspire being in the playoffs.

What we need is absolute luck by trade deadline as well as next year's lottery, then we can talk about the playoffs...

Hey Nets fans.

I was just going over on ESPN NY and saw a really cool little piece on TWill, and what lesson he's taken from the D-League"

“I started the first game,” Williams recalled to the Newark Star-Ledger. “I was like [to the ballboy], ‘Do you watch the NBA?’ He said, ‘Yeah, you’re one of the players I [like to] watch. Why would you blow it?’ I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ He said, ‘Why would you want to have an attitude, and be late – the simplest things you can control? And you get to be in the NBA? I would die to do that, so don’t blow it.’

"That’s a 12-year-old telling me that,'' Williams said."So I think that, and my mom crying [on the phone, asking me if I got kicked out of the NBA forever] was what really got to me. So down there, I decided to take everything serious, like I was here, as far as practicing and playing in a game.''

. . . . .
“It woke me up a lot. I’m not going to sit here and give you the typical answers -- everybody that goes to the D-League and comes back says, ‘Yeah, I understood my lesson.’ When I say I understood my lesson, I truly mean that, in the most sincere way, that I really understood going down there and it definitely woke me up, and hopefully helps my career in the long run.

“I definitely understand what Avery did -- and I appreciate it.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nice story. I hope the can keep those words and lessons in mind. Just thought y'all would like to hear it.
I dont get your point, making the playoffs doesnt help this team even if it means attracting free agents? What would help the team then? Having the worst record and NOT landing the first pick and having to rely on an unproven college player? You got it all wrong. I dont know how any true fan can say they dont want there team in the playoffs. Anything can happen in the playoffs. Dont even try to tell me otherwise because then Ill have to find all the playoff upsets of the past which I really dont feel like doing.
^^ Not to mention the advantages of giving a young team a taste of the playoffs, wins or losses.
I don't want our players used to a losing environment.
Root for the playoffs until you're mathematically eliminated, draft choice 2nd.
We're not beating Boston, Orlando or the Heat in a 7 game series.. so just stop it.
Ok, but does missing the playoffs and having to rely on ANOTHER lottery pick help us beat anyone the following year? Or the year after that? Unless someone like Durant comes around again the draft isnt going to help us.... so just stop it.
Exactly my point. I made a similar argument a few months back in another thread. About the atmosphere of the playoffs and experience for the players. Remember Brook Lopez still has never been in a playoff game. Hes not going to be great until he does.
So making the playoffs for Lopez who'll just see his team getting trounced in the first round is more important and valueable than netting a high draft pick that has a pretty good chance of making us better in the long run.
Not sure if serious..
Yes it is, and not just for Lopez but all the players. I said Lopez because hes the most likely to be elite at his position. And being one of those teams that are young, playoff bound and with money can be quickly fixed with a top tier player signing, whereas a team that is at the bottom and trying to build with draft picks can take years, or even worse, be like the Clippers....
Name one free agent that is going to attracted by a team that gets routed in the playoffs, and clearly did not belong there? Carmelo Anthony?
What would help the team then? Having the worst record and NOT landing the first pick and having to rely on an unproven college player?
No, having natural growth of the rookies/young players, as well as accumulating another asset for the team.
You got it all wrong. I dont know how any true fan can say they dont want there team in the playoffs. Anything can happen in the playoffs. Dont even try to tell me otherwise because then Ill have to find all the playoff upsets of the past which I really dont feel like doing.
I'm saying catching lightning in a bottle this season and making the playoffs. This team is awful, I'm not calling to tank, I'm just saying this team should not make the playoffs and if they do, it will be at the detriment to the future of this team. No one is saying for them to tank...at all.
Im not here trying to troll just giving my opinion that you guys should focus on the lottery draft.Making the playoffs to get eliminated the first round is not as good or helpful as getting a top guy in the draft..Thats how bad teams turn into good ones through drafting and that's what you guys should focus on imo
U mad? I think the only one upset here is you. Excuse me for wanting to see the team I support make the playoffs, I guess people in Australia support their teams differently than here in the states??? And heres a pop quiz for you hotshot, how many years did that team stay together? Exactly....
