Thought on End-Game Playcalls for Luke

Post#1 » by Klomp » Thu Dec 9, 2010 3:36 am

I know its frustrating, but I wonder if Rambis is calling the same type of plays he plans to call once Flynn is healthy. I know you have to coach the guys you have on the court, but its almost like hes preparing the other four guys for once Jonny's back.

If so, and the defense collapses when Jonny comes off the screen, there could be lots of open shooters to pass to.

Maybe. I kind of wonder how much of the late game F ups are on Rambis and how much of it is Ridnour thinking he's more then he is, but if it is preparing for Flynn then I hope it works. These late game possessions seem to be the main problem with the team.

I mean we all know why Luke is a backup now. Maybe some of us, including myself, were looking for him to make more of a difference with his experience, including late in games whether Flynn is hurt or not. It's whatever, this season is all about learning from games like tonight & getting guys experience.

in the last 2 minutes, ridnour did these:

bring the ball up, go to the left side and shoot a fall away long 2 pointer. keep in mind that the ball wasn't even passed around--all luke in that possession.

another play, we're down by 4, luke gets the ball , dribbles to the right side, and shoots a long 2 pointer. in that case, step back one more step and and he'd be in 3 point range. either drive closer to the basket or shoot a 3. bone headed long 2 point jump shot infuriate me.

I really thing this has to do with Rambis telling Luke to "read the defense". Why Ridnour seems to need braille in late game situations is beyond me.

Well you need to get the ball to a primary ball handler on an out of bounce play. Luke is obviously deciding to jack up the shots and honestly if he's open I have no problem with him taking it. He's one of our best shooters. I just don't like the fact that he took a 22 footer for two points. He rushed it a bit.
