I went to it.

Good event, but the turnout was pathetic.

The place wasn't even that big, and they had to move people down from the cheap seats to try to make it look better for TV. In years past it's been a sellout or close to it. Maybe it's because of a lack of Koreans/fighters Koreans recognize, but I think it's more due to lack of promotion/general lack of interest in K-1.

There doesn't seem to be many big names this year, outside of JLB, Overeem, Sefo, and Semmy.

Arlovski was supposed to be in it, and pulled out at the last minute (not sure why...maybe they mentioned it on the broadcast?). Mighty Mo was his replacement. It was short enough notice that he didn't even have sponsors on his trunks.

Yea you could get the sense that it wasn't that packed from watching it.. I'm sure the attendance will be better for the GP though (although you would obviously have a much better indication of if that's true or not). That's awesome you went though and presumably had good seats. The Overeem, Semmy/Gerges, JLB/Kyotaro, Ghita, Kharitonov/Sato and Gokhan Saki fights were ALL amazing! The fights were very stellar overall. One thing however is that K1 is definitely something you have to watch with a PVR.. The actual event is waaaaay to drawn out to sit and watch from start to finish.. The GP is the same..

Final 8 brackets have been drawn:

Mighty Mo vs Aerts
Semmy vs Kyotaro
Gokhan Saki vs Ghita
Overeem vs Spong

Can't wait should be amazing!

Like CPT mentioned AA was supposed to be in it. Also Badr Hari, who otherwise would be the favorite to win, pulled out (Dude has issues, he recently kicked a knocked out opponent after the fight in protest of some bad officiating..)

Yeah, I was wondering about Hari. What about Bonjasky? Does he still compete?

He hasn't announced it officially but he's practically retired. He had a serious eye injury (detached retina I believe?) and hasn't fought since he lost to Semmy at the GP last year. Shame he has to go out like that, one of the most entertaining combat fighters ever.

Overeem is a cool guy. The more interviews I watch of him the more I realize how down to earth and rational he is. Definitely made a fan out of me.

That was a hell of a beating he put on that dude in the quarters.

I still love the over the top antics of Schiavello, he's everything Gus Johnson is to the NFL and NCAA.

So before any spoilers come out, does anyone know where I can watch this fight online?
edit: never mind, found it.

Just watched on my PVR and WOW!

The fights weren't the greatest but seeing Aerts beat Semmy was absolutely unreal! I love Overeem but honestly this was his best chance to win it, no Semmy, no Badr Hari and both Saki and Aerts were beat to **** when he faced them. That said, that's what the GP is all about though, and good on Alistair for getting out of the first round relatively unscathed (Spong came to fight tonight too!).

Really glad Overeem took it though, he's clearly the best striker at (MMA) HW right now, if that was even a question before.
