Re: The "guys in the truck" let us down each and every night
I agree with this guy 100%..
I made a thread exactly like this a few years ago, and it hasn't gotten any better since... It has actually become worse. I just want to watch a basketball game, not a TV drama. I don't need to see Jay Triano's glasses, Jerryd Bayless's forehead, DeRozan's acne, random people in the crowd, Colangelo in the tunnel, WHILE THE GAME IS GOING ON!
We've missed many, many plays due to terrible camera work. They take too long to cut to a person, show him for too long, and miss the live play. In a game like basketball where the action is fast you can't do this. The producer is an inept moron who doesn't even watch the garbage he produces. He forgets the fact that essentially he is our eyes and ears. While he may be able to see things outside of the camera, WE CAN'T.. All we can see is what comes through our TV...
I see no hope for things changing. Raptor nation is simply too small and viewership is miniscule compared to hockey. The producers are essentially dictators who are left to do whatever they want. I've sent letters but nothing has come from it.

Great thread, I just wish this is one of those threads where our voices are heard (and it has happened before). I think if everyone copies the op's entire post and keeps pasting and sending it to Raptors.com it will eventually gain notice.

Just send this on twitter to Eric Smith, Paul Jones, and Devlin. They will probably show somebody.

watching the play from a camera on the other end, at an angle = the worst
i dont understand it - glad to see im not the only one who doesnt like this stuff (i thought it was just me and that i was being too picky)

I agree 100% (which is extremely rare for a realgm rant).

Hotboxing the sh*t outta the truck for the entire broadcast and not cracking the window until Devlin says goodnight is the only reasonable explanation I can think of.

The worst is the camera angle behind the net. All you see is the players backs. You can't even see the ball.

The most annoying thing is when the show a mans face for a solid 10 seconds while the game is being played...come on now. Another thing I hated tonight was when Jack and Matt were singing...

It's just a 1-2 punch with the commentating.

Yup not only is the camera work terrible as pointed out by the OP, but Matt, Jack an Leo spend much of their time talking about everything not related to what's going on on the floor.

This is what happens when you have hockey people doing production for a basketball game.
It's been like this since 1995 and it isn't about to ever change.

Re: The "guys in the truck" let us down each and every night
It is a great relief to me to see so many other fans who are ready to throw something at the television set during Raptor games because of all of these frustrating production decisions.
I hate all of those moronic camera angles, and so often I am watching some inane random person or thing while play is going on, and I am yelling at the TV "Game! game! game!' just hoping someone will remember that there is a game going on and get the camera back to it --- or that the announcers will stop prattling about some movie they saw or some football game they were interested in, and call the basketball game going on in front of them.
Sometimes it is deeply frustrating to be a Raptors fan, and the reasons don't necessarily have to do with the team itself. Curious, but true.

Re: The "guys in the truck" let us down each and every night
Breaking away from the action has bothered me for at least 4-5 years now - glad so many others see it too. They leave full screen graphics up during the action too.
There was a guy on PrimeTime sports from ABC (CBS?) a few months ago talking about how boring the classic side angle looks in 3D, hopefully this isn't a precursor to more crazy camera angles in the future. Supposedly they're trying to get more angles where the action is toward and away from the camera specifically for 3D.

As stated the American broadcast is infinitely better not to mention better commentary inc colour. I watched Raps vs Knicks via American stream and Frazier is still one cool customer but now on the mic. Completely agree with the OP, p.s. gonna be a douche and say this translates over to the written media as well, I'd kill for some ESPN converage. HBO behind the scene series, the works.

Troy Clara and "Jumpin" Johnny Rusin could use a couple of Stone Cold Stunners....
I hate how Matt, Jack, Leo, Jones and Smith start kissing their ass about how good they are
when they couldn't be more awful. Or the fact that they tell us what big puckheads they are
especially Troy Clara who they fell they have the need to remind us is a big Montreal Canadiens
fan as if anybody gives a flying ****. If it wasn't for the CRTC I'd watch the opposing
teams feeds all the time except for Boston and Chicago.

re: choosing weird camera angles to better suit 3D:
That seems extraordinarily self-defeating and even stupid when the vast majority of us will never be watching it in 3D. Are they actually trying to alienate the majority of tv-watching fans for some strange reason?

Re: The "guys in the truck" let us down each and every night
The last few games I have said to myself that I need to start a thread on this very topic. It has been going on for years and years.
We miss at least one basket every single game and often do not even get a replay angle of it for some reason. And those insane camera angles.
Its like the crew is a bunch of film students looking to find some artsy new way of showing sports. I am waiting for an overhead closeup of an ashtray with a cigarette slowly burning itself out that fades into a shot of the center court circle or the rim.
Just produce a professional looking game like every other network. Don't try to reinvent the wheel. This company does nothing original in every other part of the organization so why use the broadcasts as their creative outlet? Try coming up with some original shows for RapsTV instead.
Its so frustrating you know they must get tons of negative feedback on this. Nobody cares.
