Jazz community thread

Been a while since we had an adequate census! Let us know where you are and how you became a Jazz fan.

Me, I live in Salt Lake City and I became a Jazz fan when my family moved here when I was 10. That was about 20 years ago and the first Jazz game I went to was Malones 60+ point game against Milwaukee. My parents company was a Jazz sponsor and had the other equally large office in Milwaukee so a significant number of the company was from Wisconsin. The owner specifically bought out a struggling branch of the fast food franchise so he could move his office here and *voila* a bunch of Wisconsin families followed. Anyways I walked in a youthful Bucks enthusiast and ended up a Jazz fan.

As I write this I realize I went to the Magic Johnson/Utah Jazz 7 game series. That might be before this. Those two games define me though. I remember Bill Walton's "Uh oh!" as much as I remember listening to Hot Rod on the radio against the T-Wolves the night my dog died. I remember meeting the girlfriend I never wanted to lose while working at a Pro-Image(later Fanzz) store while Hornacek and Greg Foster were being interviewed by Jim Rome during the NBA finals.

That's my Jazz history, join the poll and add your story.

I was born in Utah and I have lived here the majority of my life. Strangely enough, though, my first experience with the Jazz came during a brief period when my family lived in Texas. A friend invited me to go to a game that ended up being Mavs vs Jazz. This was Stockton's rookie year. I don't remember a lot about the game, but I do remember the Jazz scored 104 points and they won. My friend was mad because I was rooting for the Jazz. Shortly thereafter, we moved back to Utah. I think, like many fans my age, I really fell in love with the Jazz during the epic 7-game Lakers series. The rest, as they say, is history.

Born and lived in B-town my whole life. Always been a Jazz fan...earliest memories include Stockton's 3 ball to put them in the finals. Will always be a Jazz fan.

Back in the mid 90's everyone I went to school was a Magic fan (Shaq, Penny), so I was too. I then changed schools and it wasn't Magic pandamonium there, so I just started following the Jazz a lot and officially became a fan in the middle of the 95-96 season. Loved how Stockton and Malone played. I've been a Jazz nut for a long time and anyone who really knows me should think Jazz the minute they think about me. I've lived in PA all my life and never rooted for any of our teams. In fact, I mostly root HARD against them.

Long time fan from southeast Asia. Been a fan since I got the NES Tecmo basketball game lol. I think that was 1992. And I've been playing the Jazz against other teams. Fell in love with the Jazz right there.

Hopefully I can visit SLC and watch my fave team with the best fans in the world! :D

Born and raised in Provo. I've been watching Jazz games since I can remember me and my cousin would go outside and play one on one during halftime every Jazz game. He was Stockton and I was Hornacek.

I remember watching game 6 in the 98' finals with my dad and older brother. I was sitting with my dad and my brother was sitting on the floor glued to the television. As Michael hit the shot against Russel, my brother put his head down and began to cry. My dad carried me upstairs to bed and left my brother with his head in his hands. Thats when i became a Jazz fan.

I'm from upstate NY/western Massachusetts. My best friend was a Jazz fan during the back-to-back Finals appearances, so by default I was Utah Jazz during that time. Whenever we play NBA Live, we used to always stat pad Greg Ostertag's numbers.

I became a bigger fan when Kirilenko arrived in '01-'02.

not sure what to check, born in CA, grew up in UT, got married/had a family in vegas for the past five years when I got back into the Jazz after not having time in college. Just moved back to UT for work. I'm sure I'm not the only one that doesn't fit in the box.

I am stoked about this years team!

Born and raised in Cali, became a jazz fan during the stockton malone days. Lived in Utah for 2yrs for work, wasn't crazy about the state, but was able to get jazz season tickets (awesome). Dislike utah, but love the team, go figure.

Born in Montana, began following the Jazz when I moved to Utah in 2003. Fell in love with AK/Harpring/Arroyo/Bell playing their arses off and beating teams that they never should have had a chance against. I appreciate the hard work that is evident on the court when Jerry Sloan's teams play, and the character of the players that is evident within the organization is also rewarding.

I am a big fan of the statistics of basketball as well, and the Jazz, with their logical style are a great test bed for my formulas. I think that the Jazz offense is art, and that they are more pleasing to watch than any team when they play well.

I remember Stock as a rookie thinking who let this little white guy on the court.

From SLC. Started following the Jazz in the very early 90's, I remember crying when my dad told me the Jazz traded Blue Edwards as he was my favorite player, I was 5 at the time.

Return to Utah Jazz
