Why is it so hard to get the stats right during broadcasts?
This is probably my number one pet peeve with live broadcasts, and it seems to happen with all broadcast teams, not just the Raptors crew.
Many times throughout a game, the commentators and producers will get the stats wrong for a specific player at a specific time. For example, let's say Bargnani has 20 points and 6 rebounds (his true stats). Devlin will say "Andrea has 20 and 6 right now." One minute later, Bargnani scores a basket which brings his total to 22/6. Devlin will say "Andrea has 20 points now." WAIT...WHAT?
And then we'll get those full screen graphics showing player stats. Some players will be missing a point or two, and some players will be missing a rebound or an assist. Sometimes a player will go into halftime with 14 points and come out with 12. Is it really that hard to keep track of how many baskets a player scored? Why can't they just refer to the official boxscore? Is there some inordinately complicated processing that must happen in the background before we get the correct stats?

I don't think Matt and Jack pay attention during games. I mean they spend like half the game (yes, exaggerating...) singing Christmas carols and Living on a Prayer.

Re: The "guys in the truck" let us down each and every night
Excellent post.. I have just come to accept this, but I totally agree.. the truck guys make some really bad calls. I don't know whos calling the shots in the Truck, but it's definately not a basketball fan.
I also hate how they don't show replays of controversial plays. I don't know if this came down from NBA head office after the whole Ref Scandal, but it definately dampens my enthusiasm...

They need an iPad.
Actually the stats are provided from third party, which is hard to update real time score.
Unless you have a score keeper sits next to you, otherwise, its hardly right.

They are using the official boxscore, but it's always changing and they are always making corrections.
Sometimes baskets need to be reviewed behind the scenes to find out who really scored, and it's not always the person they originally credited it to.

They need to hire new official scorers then. These guys have courtside seats and they can't tell who scored the basket?

Re: The "guys in the truck" let us down each and every night
BY FARRRRR the worst produced games in the league... ive seem so many other feeds from other broadcasts and I never miss any plays..
yet every game we seem to miss 2-3 fast breaks... i dont know how many times i have complained about this on realgm.. i even tweeted eric smith about it a while ago...
The producer of whoever is responsible seriously needs to get fired.. and when they show the angle from the opposite corner really makes me angry.. u cant see anything! just because you have the angle doesnt mean u have to use it!
Maybe they do it to keep casual fans interested and dont care about hardcore fans like me... but I still dont see how anybody would like these stupid ass angles..
and they dont have to show every single player that scores running back on defense.. maybe if the guy is on fire and actually showing some emotion or something.. but do i really need to see sonny weems' face after he hits a midrange jumper in the 1st quarter?...
i think this is the most ive ever written in a post.. but these guys in the truck are f*ckin idiots..

And the camera angles, etc.....all those guys in the truck ought to be embarrassed to have their names mentioned. No one, not fans nor possibly a bigtime US producer....would watch these and think they were good.
The shot of the game is always a layup.

I often say to myself, "what just happened?". Even though I am staring right at the television. This should not happen.

The Raptors broadcasts are crap. Watch a Lakers game to see it done properly. It makes me angry too.
Terrible angles, cutaways, replay choices, you can go on and on.

agree. also, whomever decided to let Jack and Matt sing Bon Jovi needs to be fired... the first time was okay but it's "Hello" all over again. it's annoying and it has to go...

I agree, they've been bad since Chuck's last year. They don't even talk about the game anymore. I just watch the other teams broadcast online. Sometimes when I see them focusing on a face for like a whole minute while the play is going on, i think Troy Clara does that on purpose because he is a hockey guy.
This is why Matt shouldn't give props to Troy. You never mention someone's name if they are giving a sub-par performance; now, everyone knows who to complain about. I guess that is not such a bad thing in this circumstance.

Yeah, it's terrible. The whole experience is like some amateur movie, only instead of shaky cam, we have useless camera angles and missed plays. Do they not realize the fail each time they miss a play, you know the reason someone is watching the game? Rather than a coach's reaction or the back of someone's jersey after the play had happened, I have a radical idea, show the actual game! It's getting very frustrating.

I now know that when they go to that far court baseline camera angle for the full possession, there's a collective groan around RealGM Raptor land. Might as well not even watch the possession. Even if they score, you don't know how they did it.

As for the "delivery of the game" and other such plays they are paid spots and are shown before the game is decided one way or the other to insure corporate exposure.

I used to think they were just incompetent. Watching the game tonight, I now know they're incompetent and vindictive.
