Yup, that's what I would do. If they get Melo now, they can keep Chandler (spending money is not an issue for NY except when it comes to acquiring players, so once they already are over the cap, I doubt they will worry about paying their own guys) and I doubt Denver is interested in him as part of a trade anyway.

Denver might go for a package of Gallinari and FIelds, both of whom are excellent role players, but who are also duplicative if you already have Melo, Chandler, Amare at 2/3/4. Also, we've seen how easy it is to acquire role players once your team has stars, so they would be able to find competent, if not equally talented replacements.

A lot of the Knick Fans seem to think Denver will have to take a very small package because Melo has forced their hand to NY, but in that case I don't see Denver even bothering. IMO it will have to be two or three of Gallo, Fields, and Randolph--and AR only if they can pawn him off for a decent pick.
