Don't take on Brand.
That is all you need to know.

We'd have to trade half of our roster for that even to work.

Re: Iggy to Minny
There's no way that an Iggy + Brand pairing would be worth
2010-11: $28.3 mil
2011-12: $30.6 mil
2012-13: $32.8 mil
2013-14: $15.9 mil (Iggy alone)
$107.6 million dollars
We don't have enough bad salary to throw back at them to make a Brand + Iggy deal close to fair.

Re: Iggy to Minny
It will really become so much more important to add Rubio in 2011 if we add Iguodala. That's a pretty big cap space hit right there.

We will always have the option to sign Rubio for his rookie contract, no matter how much cap space there is.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

After 2011 we still have the option but he also has the option to ask for more. I think that is what cpfsf is saying.

I thought it would be a given that he would get more. Sigh, I don't like looking into this crap. As soon as we get Rubio, than it just becomes useless knowledge.

Well yeah he will probably want more. I was just saying that becomes an option for him after 2011.

I don't think any European has gotten more than the MLE before playing in the NBA.

If Rubio comes over next year, he will still be on the rookie scale, with the same salary as the 5-pick from the 2011 draft, plus the standard 20% raise. If he comes over in 2012, after three years elsewhere, then he can be signed for any amount.
HOWEVER, that loophole only exists if the current Collective Bargaining Agreement remains identical after next year's discussions, and potential lock-out. My guess is that the NBA Board of Governors, who last month elected Glen Taylor to lead them, will want to protect themselves from high salaries from rookie-but-not-really Euros that might demand more money. This would be good for the Wolves as well -- I just hope that the Rubio camp doesn't see this as Taylor targetting Rubio's bank account.
I hope that simplifies it.

That was my basic understanding of it, but I need something cleared up. If we are over the salary cap, is the most we can offer the MLE? If he demands more, what happens to Rubio? We still hold his rights after all. Is Fran Vazquez in the same situation as Rubio?

I'm pretty sure you can't. But like I said before, a European with no NBA experience getting more than the MLE is pretty much unprecedented.

I guess not. Well, maybe if you had a huge injured player exception or something like that but i'm not sure.
Anyway, barring a lockout i'm 87.35% sure that Rubio will play next season in Minny.
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.
