Olnay: Jays, Royals far apart on Greinke

Won't give Drabek + Snider for him

Buster_ESPN
Heard this: The Blue Jays are not close on a Zack Greinke deal, and have no intention of giving up Kyle Drabek and Travis Snider for him.

Would you give Drabek for Greinke? Who has the higher ceiling?

Higher ceiling? That's Greinke easily and I doubt there's even much debate on it. The question over the two would be about years of control and salary, not about whether the Jays actually think Drabek is likely to ever be as good as Greinke. I think the Jays take Greinke for Drabek in a heartbeat, but the prize in that equation is Snider anyway. They won't throw their best pitching prospect in on top of Snider for Greinke. I have no position on what they should do here. I like Greinke, but the economics of the situation are the deciding factor and I'm hardly in a position to say how they'll factor in for AA.

I wouldn't give up both Snider and Drabek either. I think Snider's going to have a big year.

I would argue you could debate on the higher ceiling - higher ceiling from this day forward. Maybe Greinke already hit his? Its very plausible that his ceiling was 2009 and he has levelled off now, especially when you factor in the question marks on his mental makeup. Or, a change of scenery could help him explode, that is also plausible.

If we are aiming for 2 years away, you could definitely make a case of Drabek vs Greinke because may have already seen the best of one, and the ceiling could very well lift on the other (or vise versa - but I dont think its an open and shut case). Especially when you factor in the unknown of keeping Greinke past 2012.

Good news, I think Greinke is really being over rated. And Dagger, it's Olney, with an "e."

Olnay is the Irish version, haha

Greinke has quite possibly already have hit his ceiling, but considering it was a low-2 ERA with a Cy Young award, I don't think that's a problem. If they could work out a deal in which Greinke extends to 2015 or so, and only give up Drabek and another couple lower tier prospects, I would be OK with that. Sure, it's a year early for what the goal is, but he could be a centerpiece of this team and opportunities like that don't come along often.

Think all the Greinke talk being overrated has made him a little underrated now. I think Greinke has the higher ceiling, but think Drabek with the development of the cutter has increased his value. Still, to give up both Snider and Drabek is way too much from the Jays perspective, but if it were a straight Drabek for Greinke trade, the Jays would be accepting it.

Good, no deal, Drabek is destined to be a top of the rotation type starter and Snider seems like he's on the verge of a big year (and not in an Alex Rios kind of way aka 'next year will be his big year')

They both have the same type of ceiling essentially... although you wont be able to prove or disprove what I said until a few years have passed.

I would give up Drabek for Greinke... the same way I would give up Halladay for Grienke... *If I absolutely had too and there were no other options available*

Snider and Drabeck for Zack G?

Too much to give up. Hell the Royals must believe the Jays are the same type of bottom feeding bitches as the Ownership in KC.
