OT: Russell Martin ?Joins Yankees

According to the Newark Star Ledger, Martin is weighing offers from four teams, including the Jays.

Martin hit .248 last season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but was shut down early and had hip surgery in August.

While the 27-year-old has seen his numbers decline in each of the last three seasons, his ability to catch as well as play other positions if needed adds to his appeal on the market.

The Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and an unnamed club that has reportedly offered Martin a multi-year deal are the other teams reportedly involved.

Would absolutely love to see Russ Martin in a Jays uniform, especially if he is coveted by the Red Sox and Yankees.

Interesting....and maybe that's a plus if he wants to try his hand at other positions..get some big league experiece around the field. I'm sure he'll give this strong consideration.

This signing would make a lot of sense. If Lind at 1st doesn't work so well, you can put Martin there until another solution is found. You can use him at 3rd in combination with McDonald and Bautista, and you can catch him if Arencibia doesn't work so well. He would be a great utility player if he was accepting of the roll, who would play most nights at some position.
