Re: Can the Knicks keep Fields from a Melo trade?
Francesa isn't the most knowledgeable guy NBA wise so I take whatever he says with a grain of salt. He probably figures in his head that since he's a rookie and he's getting a lot of attention he would need to be in the trade.

I would think the Nuggets would ask for Fields. Fields has performed exceptionally in both games against them.

Your below average poster on realgm has more basketball knowledge than Francesa.

I would be fine if we keep Chandler and Gallo.

francesa knows nothing about basketball. he watches the final 5 minutes of a knick game once every 2 weeks and thinks he's qualified to make a statement like this.
and the post above is true. logic says a rookie doing well is going to need to be in any trade since the knicks apparently have nothing to trade.

Re: Can the Knicks keep Fields from a Melo trade?
Personally I would prefer we keep Fields over Gallo and Chandler. Not that I think he's better than those guys because he's not but I think he would be an ideal compliment to the whole Amare & Melo dynamic something I'm not sure about with the other guys...

They'll take Fields from us. If they can put together Lawson/Fields/Gallo/AR/Nene ... what Knicks-err, Nuggets fan wouldn't want to watch?

Re: Can the Knicks keep Fields from a Melo trade?
We can but the question is will we
If it's fields or gallo I thi we move fields. If it's fields or chandler i think we move fields.
Fields has played himld into an exceptional position both for himself and for us. I'm ok moving him at his high value point.
Curry, fields and azabuke plus pick and cash for Carmelo is more than acceptable IMO.
Remember if we keep Randolph, chandler and gallo not only are we a better balanced team but we have a lot more to move for that next major piece, say Paul or even Mayo

Re: Can the Knicks keep Fields from a Melo trade?
i don't see why they wouldn't ask for him. if we do end up trading for melo before the deadline, making a decision about Fields is going to be very difficult.
keep in mind, donnie has explicitly said multiple times that he will NOT gut the roster and take a step backwards.

klemen4 wrote:Still there is a way NY can keep both Chandler and Galinari and sign Melo as FA, but I think the only way it to package Randolph+Turiaf 2011 contracts 7.27 mil to a team like CLE who could take Turiaf being 5,5 mil under the cap and lets say give TPE for AR...That is the only way.
Find someone to take Turiaf and give them AR for making a favor. Maybe add 3 mio.
Than you could go like this
felton/douglas
fields/douglas
melo/chandler
galinari/chandler
amare/mozgov
This is the best posible team imo
Knicks are already weak up front. They can't afford to trade Turiaf without getting another bigman.

I don't see how Melo can't play the four in this system. He is as big as Chandler, maybe bigger. He lacks shot blocking, but he is a better rebounder. In fact, I can see MD use Melo only at four in this system.
Didn't Melo play PF for Team USA? While I think the Knicks should get a starting caliber center and move Amare to PF. I can't imagine D'Antoni not putting Melo at the 4 and Amare at the 5. Probably with Gallinari at the 3 to space the floor. -Jitpal

Slight problem with trading Fields is it leaves us with a big hole at the 2. Even if you say the rebounds we'd gain from Melo would negate the loss of Fields rebouding, we'd still be looking at starting TD at the 2 and giving extended minutes to Mason.
Gallo or Will but not Fields...unless Den is willing to include Affalo.

I still don't think this is over. I keep reading from other guys that those isn't over and nets and bulls and maybe some teams will take him without an extension. I still believe by is his first choice and the favorite to get him but we shouldn't act so cocky and say we should give up Waller and a second round pick it going to take much more and everyone has to try and realize that. This is Carmelo Anthony! If we have a chance to get him we have to do it!

Re: Can the Knicks keep Fields from a Melo trade?
Lots of stuff to think about. The trade to get Melo might end up being a three team deal for all we know too. I could totally understand why DEN would want Fields though. He's young, very cheap, and a guy that could contribute right away. I mean why wouldn't they want him?

Re: IT'S SIMPLE. MELO IS NOT THE ANSWER. HERE'S WHY
Can't believe anyone would argue that we don't need Melo. Did you get a chance to see the offense when Amare was out with foul trouble? While we all commend Amare on shouldering the load thus far he can't do it everynight, he needs another superstar alongside him if we truly want to contend.
It will be interesting to see what people think of this team after we face better competition, we've looked good thus far but I'm not getting gassed off of beating a Denver team thats questionable on the road.
