OT: I talked to Rambis at the grocry store last night!

Post#1 » by LOBO 7 » Mon Dec 13, 2010 7:58 pm

I went grocery shopping with my friend, walked into the store, saw him from about 50 feet away, with his back to me, but knew it was him right away. I made a bee line for him, then pretended to look at the butter selection, waiting for a good moment, but there was no way in hell I wasn't gonna talk to him. I didn't think I would be, but I was actually pretty starstruck. I just went up to him and said,"Hey Kurt, sorry to bother you, I just wanted to say I'm a huge fan". He smiled and said "Thanks, I really appreciate that". He said he was really excited about the team, that they were gonna "put it all together pretty soon", made some small talk about the weather. He is a large man. He was really nice, and there are a million things I would have loved to talk to him about, but like I said I was kind of starstruck and couldn't really think straight.
Later, as he was leaving the store, he walked past my friend and I and made a point to say "take care, guys". Anyways, nothing too exciting, but it totally made my day!

Totally BFFs!

Tom Hanneman stopped by my place a number of years ago to pick up some cards he won from an ebay auction (He was donating them for his own charity auction). Kind of the same thing. You could sit and chat with them and blab on and on, but something in your brain kind of kicks in and says "Just keep it short, I'm sure they are sick of hearing it."

Yeah, my brain was telling me to keep it short, but he actually did not give off the vibe of being annoyed at all, he instigated some of the conversation rather than just giving me quick, short answers. Also, I look kind of like a bum, so it was nice that he was genuinely nice and happy to talk to me.

Coincidentally, the friend I was with works at a restaurant downtown, and apparently Reggie Theus comes in there all the time and is also really nice, my friend is on a first name basis with him. This friend doesn't really follow basketball and didn't know who Reggie Theus was until a coworker told him, and he didn't really understand why I was starstruck around Rambis.

Anyways, interesting night at the grocery store.

That's awesome. I was starstruck talking with Wes Johnson, my heat was beating a million miles fast. I also had a short conversation with Tom Hanneman & Anthony Tolliver. Very starstruck & lost for words/questions at the time, but also I try to act somewhat "cool" not like; ohhh can I have your autograph and a photo with you.

haha awesome, I used to work at a grocery store in Eden Prairie and had Bryant McKinnie come through my line once. I was more shocked at the size of him then starstruck, but he was a real cool guy, real down to earth. Said I was a big fan and asked him if he was ready for the season to start, he jokingly said "no, off-seasons way too short man", I wished him good luck on the season and told me to "take care".

Did you meet Wes at a meet and greet? I was at the Target Center one over the summer. He sat at our table for autographs. Just wondering if you were at the same one.

That's pretty cool LOBO.

I was at a basketball game once and Kevin Garnett was playing in the same game. I remember thinking "this is awesome".

No I was at a Best Buy and he was talking with workers there about buying something (camera or laptop) and was leaned against a fold up table with his girl. I walked up when they were done talking and said what's up and shook his hand. Didn't ask a whole lot, didn't want to be a pest and I was about ready to leave and so was he. Just asked him if he liked it here (he said he enjoys it a lot so far) and asked him if he was really going to dunk on DMC for the Kings opener, he said with a smile (Oh you already know) and added that they were gonna beast & win. Then wished him luck for the season and to win ROY. Was pretty nervous but held it together.

That is pretty cool.

My closest brushes with stardom were meeting Cris Carter (waaay back when I was little), Kal Penn (couple years ago when he was campaigning for Barack), and former presidential candidate John Edwards (only cool because he walked up to me and instigated the hand shake).

Only one I might have been star struck by is Cris Carter, but I was too young to really be star struck.

Yeah, I'm from North Dakota, we don't have famous people.

A little off topic, but back when we were teenagers, PeeDee and I had a little pro wrestling match at his uncle's (Brad Rheingans) party. Legion of Doom, Smash from Demolition, Beverly Brothers, and a few other pro wrestlers were there, and a crap load of Japanese kids that came with Masa Saito. We were even in a Japanese Wrestling magazine.

It was all fun and games until his uncle saw PeeDee perform a moonsault on me...He tore us a new one. lol. Stupid kids thinking we were invincible.

That's my closest brush to stardom.

Man, thats huge!

I really, really admire Rambis and his rhetoric. Hope he turns out a great coach, which he should be.

(Oh, and yea, im not too mad at him either for providing Darko a last chance to be an nba baller when nobody wanted him).

I saw Hayden Fry shopping at Hy-Vee. I saw a dog in the store too. That was the best day of my life. The end.

Oh, I also saw the Oscar Meyer Weiner vehicle once.

Closest I came to brushing elbows was I played in a pickup game in downtown Detroit with Carlos Rogers when he was a member of Golden State. He's 6'11 and seemed to be about 200 lbs. He talked the whole game and was totally goofing off, he was there to have fun. He was jacking up 30 footers and talking and clowning around. It was cool, he didn't seem to mind just chilling on the playground and talking junk. Pretty cool. I never guarded him or anything. I think he was content to fire up longshots and not get hurt.

Pretty neat to play with a pro.

P.S. He hit more 30 footers than he missed. His skill level was impressive.
