Quick! Let's trade for Marcum. Yanks look vulnerable this year!

I would assume they're gonna push real hard for Greinke now...

+1. I'm surprised they let him get away after what Boston has done though

Seems money couldn't have done it as Yanks had offered 150/7 and Lee got 100/5. Yanks didn't make any mistakes.... they just got spurned.

Yankees are probably going to push HARD for Greinke now....because if they don't, the Jays could very well finish ahead of them - how sweet would that be? Besides, I'm not sure if even Greinke is going to be enough. It'd give them a rotation of Sabathia, Greinke, Hughes, Nova, Burnett.

They are going to need a bounce back year from Burnett, and continued growth from Hughes, Nova.

Jays would have to make some moves too, though. Not sure what AA's priorities are - internal development vs. accelerating the process?

Sweet!

Now in an ideal world, the Yankees go hard after Greinke, clearing out their top prospects to get him, after which he sucks because he stresses to much pitching in New York or maybe he just doesn't return to form, and signs somewhere else in 2 years. At this time, the Jays are legit, and the Yankees old after missing out on free agents summer 2011 too and don't have any of their prospects ready to play because of Greinke...

Side note --> shoot this is like a Miami Heat situation except they have a solid supporting structure around the big guys.

Unfortunately it isn't likely...the Yankees haven't actually taken a step back from being the 95 win team they were a year ago, it just seems that way given the talent that the Red Sox have added. They might not win the division now, but with the Rays falling off and none of the AL Central/West teams really improving they're virtually guaranteed a playoff spot.

Huge surprise. Obviously he didnt want to play in NY. Yankees are looking suspect at this pt. Boston looks good though.

is the contract he signed 100/5? I hadn't heard that yet. In any event, I guess the bombers can thank there fans for spitting on his wife in the playoffs. I'd say that likely factored into where the lee's wanted to go.

I am going to say they have not exactly taken a step back, but they have turned in the wrong direction and started inching that way, and that is based solely on an aging line-up. Not a lot of youth and potential, but a lot of old guys getting older. Jeter, A-Rod, Posada (Though I think Montero is potentially starting, unless he is traded....:D), Pettitte gone likely, Rivera has gotta show some signs of wearing soon doesn't he? They are still a very good team though (Cano, Teixeira, Swish, Sabathia etc), and I wouldn't hesitate to say playoffs shouldn't be a problem for them even if they don't make any more moves.

According to Heyman Yanks don't want to go after Grienke (plus they don't have the pieces)

Interesting turn of events. The supposed reason the Phillies traded Lee was because he didn't want to sign an extension and they were worried about how much he would command once he became a free agent. Guess he had a change of heart. I always find it somewhat respectable whenever a player takes less money for the chance to win.

I think if Phillies is 5/100, he gave up about 55 million dollars over two years to do this. Clearly not about the money this guy.
