They are saying he would take $50-70 million less to be a Philly. I can understand leaving 10% or so on the table to get to a preferred situation but 50-70 million is a ton of money. To a team he played on for half a season, that traded him after an unbelievable post season pitching performance because they thought he wasn't good enough. He wants to go back to that team? That's just laughable. Part of me just wants to see the deal the happen, to see this guy take $70 million less for the Phillies. The reaction of the Mets' fans wouldn't hurt either. -Jitpal

He left $50 million on the table, I highly doubt $6 more would have made a difference. Total was $154 as per Buster Olney. The union is going to flip out. So much for his agent making a name for himself. -Jitpal

Dr. Detfink wrote:For the record, I could care less. I've been VERY vocal though that there was no way in hell that Lee would accept a 4-5 year deal for $120M as one lunatic suggested.

I assume I was the lunatic you were talking about regarding Lee signing for 5 years 110-120 million, but it looks like you were flat-out wrong. Nice try though.

Lee signs with Philly for 5 years around 100 million.

You gotta love it when posters believe they absolutely know what a player will do.

Especially from Dr. Detfink who talks down on everybody & thinks everyone is an idiot for not having the same opinions as his.

**** Cliff Lee. **** him straight to hell.

As great a pitcher as he is I was not excited about signing a 32 year old to seven years. Just might be one of those regret it now love it later things.

Have to root hard for Pettitte to come back.

We all had concerns about giving him a 7 year deal and paying him $28 million at 39 years old. I don't want to call it a blessing in disguise because this team still has work to do, so until that work is done it stinks we didn't land the guy we wanted for two years.

Hughes took major steps last year, but its time for him to take that giant leap to become the #2. Hopefully Rotschild can straighten out Burnett, and Pettitte comes back. I'd like to see Nova get a shot this year, but I wonder if they would break camp with him in the rotation.

We keep draft picks and have a TON of money to spend down the road...it could be a lot worse.

Nice try, Matthews. That's cute considering my comment was specifically responding to these ridiculous offers that You thought Lee would accept from the Yankees.

In ZERO posts in any of these threads were the Phillies in the discussions. It was all about what it would take for Lee to come to the Yankees. Apparently not even SEVEN years north of $138M was enough.

You're welcome.

Boy, I have never been on a board where they have so much in common with Gregory Hines, that is they dance like b*tches around a point just to pick their spots.
