They don't wanna look like Melo's people bullied them into working out a deal w/us.
That's all. This "no pieces" crap is exactly that. Crap. I have a feeling Melo will end up on the Magic or even Mavericks...just to spite him and us.

No they won't, because that does not benefit them in any way. Even Dan Gilbert took a S&T with Miami, because at the end of the day, these men have to do what is best for their business.
On top of that, Carmelo has been insistent, but cooperative. He has not made waves in the press, he has played in games, put up numbers, and has maintained a dialogue with them. Not to mention he has given them a heads up so they don't get screwed.
Why would they be so hell bent on screwing him?

Spiting Melo is not a good idea...they will have a hard time trying to acquire players in the future because players will not wanna play for a team that treats there players bad. It's not like Melo is pulling a Vince Carter so I think they will send him to a team he wants to go to.

My bet is watch out for Orlando....expiring and still producing player in Vince, a pick, Pietrus, and Bass.....
and why wouldn't Melo want to play with the best center, a very good PG, a good outside shooting PF and have Reddick ready to jump in at SG....
and add Denver wants Smith out so there's the SG, now Orlando is battling for the top seed. Melo would be crazy to say no, gets his money and great team and Denver gets a usable expiring and young talent and pick....
To many are taking Melo as a knick for a sure thing, i'm skeptical from Denvers point of view and what Donnie will give up to get him.....
think about it
Yeah, Vince Carter, Bass and Pietrus are certainly players u can rebuild with.

Man.
I hope you guys are right.
Because I'm starting to think that Melo really isn't as bold as he said he was earlier this season.
I doubt he wants any part of testing free agency. He wants to sign that extension...I just want it to be resolved so we can make the moves to improve around our core. I just don't see Denver helping us. Orlando or Dallas aren't exactly the KC Royals. So it's hard to fathom him going to these teams and not signing that extension just to take less money for NYC. Maybe it's how Lebron played us or the fact that I like my team that has me ready to just have this resolved one way or the other soon. I hope my guys are taking all this personally too.

I hear ya man. We still got two more months of speculation left so just bear with it. For now just appreciate what we have now and trust Donnie will make moves that are in the best interest of this team not only short term but long term too.

I really hope he doesn't get pressured into anything by Dolan. That prick is goign to make him trade half our starting lineup to get him I bet. Anthony will make us a worse team if we have to give up anyone out of our starting lineup with the exception of fields. Chandler and Galo must stay. They are going to be key role players if we put together a legit contender. Anthony also just scores, we already score a million points, we need defense. Defense would make us a contender right now. If we played real good defense they wouldn't even need to make any moves. Anthony without losing Chandler or Galo is fine, but not if either of them have to go. Randolph, Fields, Mozgov, Walker, Mason, Curry, williams, and Azbuke (however he will be huge for us if he is anything like himself when he comes back) are the only players I would be willing to give up. I might throw in Douglas in that group, but that would mean we would be even hurting more at 1/2. Azbuke may be a key to us getting even better if he can come back at even 90% of what he was pre-injury. He can play some serious D, and he fits the Off. system perfectly, since he can shoot the 3 real well, and he is athletic.

Look either way Chandler is gone if they renounce or trade him for that max salary slot. They are not resigning him until they findout about the max slot.if you Trade chandler, and filler for mello how can either team offer the youth plus cap relief at a position they need to fill.
You get hm for as cheaply as possible but these other teams have always been option just because you never thought of them. Mello is saying and doing the right things keeping his options open. Donnie needs to make deals to help this team. So if makes a move for Mayo instead of Mello fans ned to realize athat this is the move and no mello...

relax, it's just melo doing damage control. you can feel the story getting out of control in the media and the rumors starting to take on a life of their own, so he's just putting his own word out there to settle the situation down before it gets out of control.

Interesting Variation on Acquiring Melo
Hi all, sorry if this has already been posted as I don't get to read the board everyday. Also apologize in advance if this doesn't work with the CBA.
What if instead of trying to pry Melo away for simply Curry, Buke, Randolph, Douglas, Cash, and 2nd Rounders; which we would all like to do without giving up our core but Denver would be getting raped, we tried something different...
What if we try to acquire a large trade exception (maybe 14M) from Sacramento or Minnesota? Maybe for something like 3M cash and Mozgov and Walker (Don't know if that's feasible, but for some small package). Then tried to add value to Denver by saving them 14M and doing the trade listed above with the 14M trade exception added in and take back Melo and Kenyon Martin. Would give us a big man that we need anyway and saves them 14M in cash. Further more, if they were able to shed an additional 10M in salary which could be Billups or the combination of Harrington and either JR Smith or Chris Andersen; if they go in rebuilding mode they would be under the cap and I believe avoid the luxury tax, which is key for a team that will probably do poorly revenue wise if they lose their superstar (Melo) via free agency which may be eminent. ***It may make sense to put us in the luxury tax due to increased revenue through ticket and merchandise sales via the acquisition of Melo with the core intact.
In addition we could get tricky and flip an expiring Martin for a long contract, that would fit well with this team like Okafor. While the talent is a little lopsided the NBA may be looking to save money after just acquiring the team.
Additionally, we could flip the script a little and use a trade exception plus Randolph and a 2nd rounder to maybe obtain both Mayo and Thabeet (I don't think they'd give up Mayo without taking Thabeet) and flip Mayo with others to Denver for Melo. Interestingly enough if it was for the trade exception straight up Memphis would be under the cap and may avoid luxury tax.
Overall I think we have one asset that at least in the past we have been very liberal with called money that may help out here as everyone including owners are nervous about what next year will bring financially. If we can use money to save other teams money and then gain assets by doing so while being able to retain our own players I think we have a great shot at acquiring some serious talent to complement our already nice squad.
***To finish, I'm not sold on Melo being the answer though this is the entire point of the thread. I've had the luxury of seeing a number of Denver games and notice that the others players stand around when Melo has the ball and they let him go one-on-one. Right now our offense has a nice fluidity to it with people moving around everywhere and a lot of unselfishness on the offensive end; something we haven't seen in years. I would be sad to see us revert just to have another superstar in the lineup. Current squad w/ movement may be greater than Current core + Melo w/ less fluidity. I don't think we need Melo necessarily, just a defensive big a-la Okafor or Dalembert, and a backup pure point guard. Our players are playing too many minutes to keep this up all year. This structure of taking on money and using the original package discussed as trade bait may well provide us with whoever we deem we need to have a decent post season run. (I think we're a playoff team as is)***
Sorry for being long winded...thanks for reading! Thoughts?

I'm a little confuse... We have Melo saying
Carmelo Anthony has told the Denver Nuggets he will not sign the nearly $65 million contract extension he has been offered unless he is traded to the New York Knicks, a source told ESPN.com on Sunday
Then
Of signing the extension this season, Anthony said, "Whatever decision I make, that is going to be the first thing that gets done."
So is Melo eventually will sign the contract no matter what, or only if he is traded to the knicks?

Yes, Melo is saying that he will sign the extension, whether it be with the Nuggets or another team.
This means the Knicks have less leverage, since they can't simply wait and sign him as a free agent. If they want him, they're going to have to trade for him.
This is a significant development, if Melo isn't BSing.

Melo will sign the extension with the Knicks, no BS he means it. I don't know what the hell you got from his statements but I'll have some of what you're smoking please.

All Melo has said is that his future will be decided by the trade deadline. That means he won't become a free agent.
And that also means he could sign the extension with the Nuggets by the deadline. So I'm not sure what you're getting out of these statements.
The Knicks have less leverage since it's not simply about getting Melo sooner. It's about getting Melo at all.
