I've been island hopping (for work) -- virgin islands, caymans, etc. I still say the greatest thing in the world is swimming with fishes.

Just stopped by to say congrats to pitbull. And I'm too friggin psyched to be seeing the Black Keys live in Chitown for New Years. Btw, still love Tera Melos and Maps and Atlases' "new" albums. And I discovered my new favorite Christmas song -- candy cane children (white stripes).

Btw, six wins, huh? Guess that whole "we are too good to lose" (had we traded Gil) debate that raged for months has been pretty much settled.

this thread should be edited to have "redirect all BA posts here" added to the title.

Girl Talk and kanye's new album are what's up. all the yuppie transplants are listening to it. you should too.

No band ever was more powerful then these Chicago maniacs and there was no greater musical genius in the last 20 or so years then Al Jourgensen aka Buck Satan himself.

Pancake, many of my friends are huge on the Girl Talk. I'm a fan as well. Kanye eh... BTW, independent of this thread, one of my friends just mentioned DJ Shadow to me last night. And Great One, my ringtone is "Thieves."

Thanks Dallas. Happy holidays to you as well.

Ps the Dylan and the Santa Stevens were for you. Btw, finally saw "It might get loud." Watching the Edge trying to play a blues lead (amdist Jack White and Jimmy Page -- who live for the blues) was painful. And there are a couple documentaries you should see. Unsure the names, but one is on Nick Drake, the other on the life of Joe Strummer.

1. The Edge playing blues? Ouch. lol

2. I bought Endtroducing recently, and that album is amazing. Flawless mixing and just pretty mind-blowing :)

3. A reminder to everyone interested, I have a music-review blog, and I just reviewed the Roots/John Legend collab album today. I'm catching up with my latter-year releases because of a bitch of a semester. (dallasshaldune.blogspot.com)

Sarah Kirkland Snider wrote an orchestra-and-voice piece called Penelope. Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond is the "voice" of the album. She also sang with The Decemberists on Hazards of Love and with Sufjan Stevens on his new album, Age of Adz. Here is a music video of a song off Snider's Penelope album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi9R0ig3TTE

I reviewed it on my blog, available in my sig. Just trying to give some pub to this album--it's pretty fantastic and under reviewed in my opinion. I thought all the indie publications would eat this stuff up. Oh well. It's fantastic and I recommend it.

Edit: And a preggers Shara Worden is in the video!

Need some more beautiful chick music.

Allison Moorer and Shelby Lynne - the sisters whose father killed their mother and himself when they were teenagers. I love Shelby Lynne.

the greater DC area lost a great one yesterday,
Dave Giegerich, dobro and steel guitar player
extraordinaire passed away from aplastic anemia
or complications thereof. He was the leader
and soul of the Hulamonsters, one of the funnest
bands you could hope to see. The only thing
greater than his musical talent was the character
of him as a person. He will be missed. RIP big Dave.

Had never heard of Daft Punk before this thread. Had no idea Kanye sampled them on "Stronger". Pretty cool.

On my way to see Tron tomorrow (finally). Looking forwward to the music.

Tupac speaking his mind back then was really different than the image I have of his Death Row record days. Seems to me he must have really changed or become angry after he got shot. I wish he had lost the hard edge and lived to become a humanitarian, as he sounded like in that video.

It seemed eerie to here him talk about God and karma. Also, his message lacked hope and sounded desperate even then. Too bad there was no father figure to love him and to tell the young man to slow his roll a bit.

^ In his defense CCJ, it's hard to stick to a message when you can make millions pandering to the tastes of popular culture. Who knows, Christopher Wallace might have had a message until he met Sean Combs.

Black Keys playing "Stack Shot Billy" as balloons drop from the ceiling of the Aragon Ballrooom in Chitown (which is decorated like a castle courtyard inside). Bloody great new years. Cheers to you all.

I've checked the last 15 pages or so for any mention of Beirut. None of my friends have ever heard of them and I think they are absolutely brilliant. I stumbled upon them not too long ago and I'm totally hooked. Definately worth your time if you've never heard them before.
