That's just a horrible return for Denver. If Randolph goes anywhere it will probably be to Houston for NY's 2012 1st back, which has to be worlds more appealing than Utah's 2011 pick in a horribly weak draft.

HOU is $2 mil over the lux themselves, and can't help clear the cap space for DEN.

In my opinion, the $17 mil they'd get back is better than Gallinari and the UTA 1st combined.

Houston just ate salary and gave up a draft pick for Terrence Williams.
Sometimes there is more to a trade than money.
When we traded KG it was about much more than money for us.
If they can't build a winner with the pieces they get from a Melo trade they are going to be out alot more than 17 million in the long term if they end up with attendance like we've had the past few years.

I think Shrink has the right idea, but I wonder if it would look more like this:

DEN OUT: Melo + Al Harrington
DEN IN: Gallinari + Chandler + Koufos + $__ mil in cap savings

NYK OUT: Gallinari + Randolph + Chandler + Curry
NYK IN: Melo + Harrington + Telfair

MIN OUT: Koufos + Telfair
MIN IN: Randolph + Curry*

*Curry's deal is insured. He's probably still be valuable to another team as an insured expiring contract at the deadline, though not as valuable as our cap space.
