wow, LA is really matching up well with BOS now... with age. :P

solid pick up. Sasha is already expendable because of Shannon's consistency. no more Sharapova sightings unless the Nest play the Lakers in LA...

Farmar-Vujacic backcourt is sick!

Not only do we trade down for Joe Smith to dump salary, we have to throw in a 1st rounder? Geez.

Nets slowly aquiring Lakers champ team

Post#45 » by Mamba Venom » Wed Dec 15, 2010 4:10 am

They have Farmar and Sasha now... 4 rings and champion experience.

How will Sasha effect the Nyets? Will he get along w/ his Euro owner or does Russia and Slovenia have beef?

Having said that, Smith is pretty much done and won't contribute anything worthwhile.

I guess the Lakers really wanted to trade their first rounder to use the money to re-sign Brown and Barnes. I get that.

We all knew Sasha wasn't giving us anything, and the Lakers probably don't want to pay him $5 to sit on the bench all year. I totally get that.

I'm sure the Lakers were looking for another veteran big man to give Pau about 5 min. off or so. Caracter hasn't been able to hold down the fort very well yet. I get that. I guess they think Joe Smith could give them SOMETHING that Sasha simply cannot.

Meh, whatever. We'll see what happens when it's official. I wish we could've gotten another 2nd Rounder or something, but if it means re-signing Brown and Barnes, that's cool with me!

...Why?

At least get a second-round pick in return?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this save the Lakers about $6 million the remainder of the year (with luxury tax)?

That alone makes it worth it. Neither Sasha or Smith are going to contribute anything to anyone, so it's strictly a money-saving move on our part. This doesn't have any effect on Barnes or Brown, as we'll only have the MLE to split anyway, and I have a hard time believing that both guys opt out.

I guess I could learn to live with this...eventually. But I really feel like we may have missed our chance of dealing Walton's contract (I mean c'mon we are sending a first round draft pick for a 35 year old 15 year vet? ) We could have sent Walton in place of Sasha and then let Sasha simply expire or use him in another trade scenario. Or we could have wrapped up Walton,Sasha and the 1st rounder and sent it for an expiring Troy Murphy. Either deal would have sat better with me.

Do you believe that other GMs are retards? Who do you think would pick up the useless walton with 3 years left on his contract? 5,6kk next year and 6,1kk in the last year of his contract...

They accepted Sasha because of his expiring contract. Still, I think Sasha can do something good for them. Walton is pretty much useless.

Luke's gonna get the Lakers a solid player in 2012-13.

You know what surprised me the most about this trade? The fact that Joe Smith is still in the League.

Added bonus for the Lakers -- even though Smith makes $1,352,181, the team pays (and is taxed for) only $854,389 of it. League picks up rest.

One other benefit to Lakers in this trade -- they gain a trade exception for $5,475,113.

League pays the salary? I'd have figured the Rockets paid the rest already.

I don't expect to see that TE used anytime soon either. Or later.

Even though TE + Luke = ~$10 million-ish bucks, I just don't see it being used on anyone who's not expiring. And the other team would be stupid to take Luke back for an expiring.

Luke has a Trade Kicker too, anyone know the details on that?
