JR to the Bulls???
WIretap is reporting that the Bulls are in discussions to acquire JR Smith
Who do the Nuggets want from the Bulls? With Forbes coming out of nowhere I guess JR is expendable but the Nuggets shouldn't start dumping salary just yet.

I don't see much that would work salary wise with the Bulls, that does not include the Nuggets taking back long term contracts. Maybe a 3 way deal, or something where we get back that Charlotte pick.

Re: JR to the Bulls???
We have nothing you'd want.
We can scrape together a James Johnson, Bogans, Scalabrine, Kurt Thomas for Smith, Ely, Carter deal. Some pick(s) could be then involved.
But that's not very appetizing, is it?
And I think the Bulls are not at ALL interested.

Re: JR to the Bulls???
I'd do that trade if a first was included.
JR is not going to be a Nugget long term. So any trade that includes young talent and/or picks is fine by me.
We couldn't even get a pick for him during the summer.

It's a crazy thing that he's so valuable a player that his talent may be what is holding his value so low. I believe his talent could potentially hold a coach hostage-- he has to play him because he is so much better than the other players, but his behavior is so poor that the players resent Smith's playing time over what they perceive to be harder-working players. And then boom, you have a team full of pissed-off players.
I don't understand why he cant be a Nugget long-term. He's young and you could rebuild with him as a key piece. I tend to think management realizes that he's bad news waiting to happen, particularly on a losing team, and they're ready to ship him off just so he doesn't poison the well.
Sorry to speak poorly about your player, I just think that that's the perception about him around the league, and personally, I don't think it's too far off.

ild probably rather keep jr if melo is gonna be gone. He brings too much scoring to lose along with melo, not to mention he's been playing very well in the last few weeks. I really hope this doesn't end up as just a salary dump. Not sure how it could with chicagos roster.

JR is too important a cog in the overall team. It's nice to have multiple options....last thing I think anyone wants to see is adding players Karl may not even play just to get rid of one of the guttiest players in the NBA.
We need a guy that is willing to take a chance and get a score. I say we keep JR. Unless we get a player as gutty as him with slightly better defense.
...and wait.....he's also talented

and by gutty with slightly better defense I don't mean just dump that task on any young player that has had a good game or three...........JR is proven and we know what we need from him in order to win......resetting that before the season is over is just plain dumb

Re: JR to the Bulls???
I would only trade JR if we are getting back good assets. While it is nice to have a guy like him as a scorer off the bench, or even as a possible starter, I don't know that he will be back next year, I cannot see us resigning him with Karl still as coach, and don't know that he would even want to resign.

The first link in the chain is Melo. Once we know what's going to happen with him, then we can think about JR. Because I'm pretty sure I don't want a mediocre team with JR but no Melo. On the other hand, if Melo stays JR can be a solid yet inexpensive contributor to the team.

Is anything being whispered about this rumor in Denver? I'm curious if there has been any progress or if it's already dead.
"They better not put me in the All-Star Game. I won't shoot, but I'll dominate that easy game. I'll be playing hard defense. I'll be foulin'. I'll be flagrant fouling. Everyone will be like, 'What are you doing?'" -- Ron Artest

i think it's pretty well understood by everyone (fans, media, coach, players, front office) that he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer and that he more-or-less needs reminders (via benching or bad media publicity from the coach) to play smart and do the correct things on every possession. it appears to this point in the league coaches have had no problem benching him for poor play, and the front office/fans have been understanding, and arguably we have seen jr's best play come out after being benched or under scrutiny. so unless the FO is ignorant, or the coach is a vag, then i don't see why it would be an issue.
and i'd argue its actually worked the opposite way here. anthony carter makes an equal amount of stupid plays on the basketball court as compared to smith. but for years he was given playing time, despite having 1/30th the talent/impact on game as jr. that doesn't bode well for young impressionable players when they see the 35 year old slow vet get minutes because he's a veteran, and they go out and make the same mistakes (poor shots, turnovers, missed rotations, gambling for steals, fouling 3 point shooters....etc), and get benched for them.
take now for example....there's a fair amount of nuggets fans that thing chauncey billups has the worst shot selection on the team (certainly the worst fg%). but he's a veteran so karl apparently couldn't care less.
and even though jr does stupid things sometimes, it appears to me that he's been a good teammate. almost always the first one off the bench to cheer for good plays or high fives/chest bumps coming into timeouts...etc. never heard any stories of other players talking poorly about him.

i don't see anyone on the bulls (within jr's value) the nuggets would want and/or a way to make salaries work without the nuggets getting back a bunch of nobodies.
and i'd guess that the FO would wait and make a decision on melo before trading a piece like jr. if they trade melo, then perhaps trading jr is a move they make simply to change directions, get fresh faces, get another pick...etc. but if they keep melo, jr's value to this team winning is far more than they'd get back in a trade. so it doesn't make sense at all.

It was a silly rumor to begin with.
Salaries don't match, and the Bulls had already shipped JR away before he had a chance step foot off the plan from New Orleans.

This last part is a pretty silly reason to discount the Bulls wanting him now. That was, 4 years ago? JR is a much better player than he was then. Bulls also had Ben Gordon then, so really didn't need a SG. Now they have no SG's to speak of. Quite a different situation.

Bulls fan here. Granted the Bulls weren't nearly as desperate for a SG who is a scoring threat back when they had Gordon, but that wasn't the reason he was moved to Denver so quickly. He was moved because Paxson is not into having potentially problematic players. As a Bulls fan I was real upset about him being moved (especially for the bag of peanuts we got back), as I was real excited when I first heard the Bulls got him in a trade. JR Smith scoring ability, strength, and athleticism is something that doesn't come along too often. His behind the back dunk still has me a little baffled.
Anyways, I think the only way the Bulls would be willing to take JR Smith back is if he either (A) came along with Melo, or (B) would be shipped out elsewhere immediately again. The vast majority of Bulls fan's agree that if the Bulls were to go after a SG from the Nuggets it would be Arron Afflalo, but my guess is the Nuggets consider him good enough value to keep at least until his rookie deal is over.

Re: JR to the Bulls???
I do not see him coming to the Bulls since the last time was a game of NBA hot potato. The Bulls did not want to (IMHO) have a project on their hands. Not so much a project talent wise, but in other areas.
The kid has loads of talent, just that he is a brat who thinks his sh*t does not stink. Hopefully for the Holidays he gets a work ethic and some maturity. Because JR can really play, and if he worked at it, there is no reason he should not be a top 5 or 10 guard in this league. Hopefully for a stocking stuffer he also gets some defense. I think the Nuggets could really use him if Melo goes via a trade.
