This is the best OJ has looked in awhile

Post#1 » by mid-post » Thu Dec 16, 2010 3:21 am

It's not a coincidence Memphis played great. It really looks like OJ/Memphis have turned a corner. After tonight we could be tied with Portland for 8th place in the West (12-14).
I know it's a long season and way too early to predict the playoffs, but this is the best the team has looked in a long time. I also get that the teams during the current winning streak haven't been that great and that
the Bobcats weren't at full strength.
But for whatever reason it really looks like the chemistry Memphis had last year is back. I think this winning streak could go on for a little while.

OJ will never reach his potential coming of the bench. It really is that simple. The team is better when the best players play
OJ Mayo , Michael Jordan , Allen Iverson.

FWIW, OJ got 15 shots up last night: that's same amount as Rudy and one less than Zbo, who led the team in FGA. Do you think OJ gets more shots night in, night out if he starts next to them (as a second, third or even fourth option) or if he comes off the bench and becomes the primary option when he's in?

Ron Tillery had some interesting insight into OJ's mindset, his situation, the organization's view of him and that of the many teams that have called NYK and Chicago were the most serious, but both were rebuffed) on his radio show this morning. OJ's not going anywhere this season, it appears, unless the Grizz are just blown away with an offer - ie, they value OJ much, much more than what teams are offering. I'll try to get a link up to it when it's posted online. I'm sure much of what he said will either go into a column or his blog soon as well.

There is no secret that OJ is a premier talents there is a reason he was the 3rd pick in the NBA draft. Top 3 pick, every one who has seen OJ in workouts like Pat Riley rave about him, players who play against him like Kobe rave about him. Heisley sees him everyday he knows OJ's ceiling and how high it is.

That being said OJ was sent to the bench, and is seeing very limited minutes. His is not being used to the best of his ability, his stats have plummeted. Every logical team is going to put the pieces together and see they could possibly buy low on OJ, while keeping their core remained the same therefore elevating them to a possible championship contender particularly Bulls ad Knicks.

As of right now with the way the Grizzlies are actually playing good for a change. The only way Mayo gets traded is if he personally goes up to Heisley and says he wants out, which probably not going to happen. Or if Mayo starts playing very well from the bench and bottom feeder team with no direction like the Pistons or Nets start making offers for Mayo''s potential/ceiling which would be too hard to turn down.
OJ Mayo , Michael Jordan , Allen Iverson.
