Thabeet?

Post#1 » by Gorilla Warfare » Tue Dec 14, 2010 7:51 am

Sorry for creating yet another trade thread, but do you think the Suns could also be looking at Hasheem Thabeet to fill that backup center void we have? Sure he is probably one of the top 3 worst number 2 picks of all time, but we also have one of the top 3 worst front offices in the NBA, we don't need him to do anything other than block shots and rebound because we have nothing but offense on this team anyways. What do you think?

I dont think he has been given enough playing time for him to be justified as a "Top 3 Worst Number 2 Pick of All Time."

But yes. I will definetly be interested in acquiring him.

As someone else posted in a different thread,
J-Rich for Thabeet and Mayo. We might have to throw in someone else though, but that is a trade I will be happy with

He is only playing 8 minutes a game in Memphis, I'm sure with RoLo's leg issues we could offer him at least 15 minutes, which I would assume he could average 7 rebounds and 2-3 blocks, which would be more than ok by me. Our salaries are way off though, so if we were to trade Richardson to the Grizz we would have to take on 4+ players just for the salaries to work. It's crazy how they're only paying Mayo 4 million a year and paying Grevius Vasquez is getting paid more than Sam Young....

“We are not trying to trade O.J. or Hasheem,” said Griz owner Michael Heisley, who sat courtside Monday with Portland in town. “We haven’t had any conversations about them, and I should know because I’m the one making the decisions.”

Well big men historically have taken longer to develop so I would grab him just based on his size and potential alone. Right now he isnt producing on the NBA level but the man is huge and can def rebound which is our biggest weakness. He doesnt have injury problems and is quite a physical specimen. This is the type of player i think we need to take a risk on and bring in since the Grizzleys are shopping him hard. Worst case scenario he's a backup center playing 10-15 minutes a year during his stay in Phoenix; best cast scenario he blossoms in 2-3 years and takes the starting job from Rolo.

I wonder what Memphis is willing to accept in return.

Based on his potential, I would be willing to throw the Grizzlies Robin Lopez.

We need to keep ROLO as well IMO. The more height, the better.

I love how our front office has had a short few months together, haven't made a single big move, and yet are already one of the 3 worst front offices. Some people complain just for the sake of complaining.

To me it seems like an oxymoron to put a top 3 worst #2 pick with a top 3 front office. To me, that spells disaster! I do disagree with this take and think this new FO needs some time, and we have to wait and evaluate how they rebuild this franchise in the near future. But I digress.

I have always liked Thabeet. He has very good size, mobile big man. I think he is going to take time to develop. He needs time since he only started playing this game a few years back in HS I think. He took time at Uconn, and I think he has the potential to be a solid center. Problem is, I see him in the same light as I do in clark. Both have a lot of potential, took a few years to develop in the college game and think if they are giving a shot, they can be solid players. Problem is, I don’t see Thabeet as an all star type of center. I don’t think he has that in his game. I see a type of player like Andris Biedrins. I think Lopez can provide what we need at the C position. I think he is a better banger down low than Thabeet too. I still wouldn’t mind trading him and developing him.

No matter what, we still need a stud PF next to a big center like lopez or Thabeet.

I think you're right ECC - we need a tough big alongside them - if we did have Thabeet and RoLo, that's two mediocre rebounding 5s. Thabeet is good defensively and blocks and alters a ton of shots, but he is not a very good rebounder. he can be, but not yet

I think Drew Gooden would be good here - he's had a bit of a resurgence in MIL this year and they have a ton 4s (Sanders, Ilyasova etc).

Wasn't going to start a new thread just for Gooden :p

You could call it...

'A spittoon is a public Drew cup'

Really though, Nash had a positive effect on Warrick, why not Gooden. The deal is there. Somewhere.
Is there one realistically better or as feasible?

List of players we need to trade.

Jason Richardson
Hedo Turkoglu
Hakim Warrick
Robin Lopez

If we can package those players for a decent player that defends and can score the ball without Nash. It would be worth it. Instead of looking at another potential bust in Thabeet.

I think we should trade nash and rebuild completely. But only to a contender team. I would love to continue to watch nash on a winning team and go for a championship. We owe it to him and we can still get something decent in return for him. We got to face it we are not going anywhere with our roster.

I think it'd be a good move for you guys. You guys need size, rebounding, and interior D, and in theory, he should bring all that. It'd be a low risk, high reward deal, because you wouldn't be giving much up to get him. It might take some developing, but he couldn't be much worse than Earl Barron.

Considering how high Thabeet was picked in the draft, and his potential, I bet that the Grizzlies would rather wait on him to develop before giving up on him and dealing him away. But if the right deal comes along, I reckon Heisley would pull a trigger.

I would love to see Thabeet in action for us. He's a whopping 7'3, and 267 pounds. Imagine if he put of 50 pounds after we acquire him. He would be a force inside on defense.

Right now, I would be willing to give up Robin Lopez to acquire Thabeet.

Grizz do some very dumb things - in Thabeet's case \i think they just show no patience. everyone knew he was a project - except Heisley. No he needs to unload the roster to pay for gasol

I still say he overpaid Gay
