Following the end of the New York Yankees’ 2010 season, many were left wondering what was wrong with the underperforming AJ Burnett?
There is speculation that his statistical downturn might be attributed to a bitter divorce he’s going through with his wife.
“A.J. Burnett went through a terrible divorce and he still might [be] going through it.” Colin Cowherd said on his ESPN radio show. “His wife was vindictive and spiteful. I don't even feel comfortable telling you everything. The stories are ugly."
In September, the 33-year-old showed up with a black eye, but when he was asked about it, he admitted only that the injury was not baseball related.
This season, Burnett posted 10 wins 15 losses and a 5.26 ERA, a vast difference to his 18-10, 4.07 ERA while playing for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2008.
