Ya I don't remember that either. I thought we dealt Scola because he was asking for too much money?

Scola sign with the Rockets for 3 years 10 millions..Kind of what Spurs paid for Oberto and Splitter..

Why Scola not a Spurs?
Spurs chose Oberto. He was a center (Timmy can play PF), he played better D and was more experienced.
Scola was a PF with non dominant height and atletism (still is), and Spurs were concerned about his 18 feet jumper, defense and rebounding. Everybody knew about his amazing footwork on the post, but they were still not confident that it could be affective in the NBA.

I'm not sure if I remember this right.

Didn't Scola come after we won the championship in 07? I think Oberto was our starting Center that year and if I'm right, hard to fault the Spurs for choosing to keep the Starting Center and the team intact. I also remember there was something about the money also. Spurs had to sign Oberto using part of MLE because they have no bird rights I think. Oberto signed for 2 years when he first got here and it takes 3 years to have bird rights. The team couldn't agree on the contract and couldn't exactly give Scola that much either since there wasn't that many left.

Also, I think Robert Horry was still here at that time right? I mean, we got Duncan at PF, and Horry our backup PF. And we had to choose between our championship starting Center or a rookie PF who will likely sit as a 3rd stringer for a year or two until Horry retires. Oberto developed good chemistry with Duncan too.

I just looked it up and Oberto came over in 05' after signing a 3 year deal.

Horry was still with the team and after looking up some old articles it seems like he was the main reason we didn't sign Scola. Scola was looking for a contract similar to Oberto's and we didn't want to pay a 3rd string PF that much because it would of pushed up over the lux tax.

Scola got 35-12 against the Pistons yesterday. Damn he would've paired nicely with Timmy.

Oberto was on our '07 title team. Played pretty well in the playoffs too. Horry was too, who could forget his "moving screen" that planted Nash into the commentary box on the sideline?

If the Spurs had kept Scola, the Lakers would probably not have any titles even with Gasol

ghill out of his flunk early in the season when he pulled a neck muscle

blair gettin more then 20mpg = win

bonner hitting his 3s

RJ 2nd year is earning dividends, his stroke and understanding the system

the veterans having no international commitments is payin off where they had the rest and playin limited minutes

the offense is evenly spread as we have depth

still pop not givin splitter his minutes....
dunno how anderson will get his minutes when he comes back

Hard to see how Splitter will have make much of an impact this season and particularly in the playoffs.

Splitter is a Duncan backup now. He's the only big man on the team that DOESN'T play WITH Duncan. More minutes for Splitter is less minutes for Duncan. That's good and all in the regular season, but we need Duncan to be Duncan for longer periods of time if we want any chance on winning it all.

George Hill is coming alive and that has been a big reason why we've had easier success lately. The fact that Gary Hill is such a great scorer takes pressure off the interior offense as well. It opens up cutting lanes that really benefit Parker and Ginobili.

Do you mean Gary Neal or George Hill is the great scorer?

Everyone has been relatively healthy and the team is clicking. Pop is using the talent he has. He has let Parker and Manu lead the show. Scoring easy buckets and changing the tempo of the game...all while resting TD.
