Should we offer Marc Gasol 10+ million/year this offseason?
We will have around 18 million in cap space if we let Green & Krstic walk. I doubt Memphis would match if it got near a max contract, should we do it? He's probably a 14/10/2 guy in our system and he plays in the flow of the offense extremely well. He's a good shot blocker and pretty much exactly what this team needs at the 5.
I think Westbrook, Harden, Durant, and Ibaka are our 1-4 for the next decade barring injury. Harden appears to be becoming the player we've hoped here recently. That leaves 1 real weakness being the 5. Would you give Gasol somewhere near the max?

Under current CBA I'd do 5/65 and not a penny more. Same as what Horford and Noah got. I don't think Gasol is as good as those guys but you have to overpay to get an RFA from another team.
Gasol isn't great on the boards so he isn't perfect for what we need but we could have the best offense in the league with KD/RW/Gasol that's for sure.
Unfortunately, I think Memphis will match any offer to him.

I don't know..weren't they talking about re-signing Z-BO? If they do that they will be at 60 million with Gasol being a RFA on a 35-40 win team. Do they really want to pay 70+ million for a team that isn't a contender and attracts no interest? They're also one of the worst teams in the NBA in attendance

I wouldn't. Id give around 8-9 million for Jeff Green. I really think Green is going to be a staple at the 4 spot for a long time. Ibaka will get his 30 minutes, and same with Sefolosha and Harden. Thabo will start for a long time IMO and Harden will come off the bench and get his 30 minutes.

Are you Scott Brooks? Seriously, you'd prefer Jeff Green over Marc Gasol? This franchise hasn't had a center as good as Marc Gasol since 1985.
We play a certain style that's required because of all the mis-matches we face. If we had Gasol you don't even need Harden in the starting lineup.
Gasol / Aldrich
Ibaka / Collison
Durant / Harden
Sefolosha / Harden
Westbrook / Maynor
That's a lot better than any combination of lineups you can concoct with Jeff Green on the roster... Gasol's far more productive and we'd finally have a team where the players are playing their natural positions.

They gave Conley and Gay extensions. I can't see them doing that and not re-signing Gasol. I guess it's possible they re-sign Randolph instead but I still don't see it.

It's probably all a moot point anyway, I don't see Presti competing with other teams for Gasol's services. He'll be highly sought after, especially since Horford is off the market.
But acquiring Gasol in any way would probably be the dream offseason for this team.

Id rather try and get Varejao, who is a much better defender from reading scouting reports on him.

I wouldn't be upset with Andy V. but I think we'd have to give up a young player to get him. At the very least something like a Jeff Green S&T.
He's a better defender than Gasol but Gasol's just too productive for that to matter, and would be pretty much the missing link in our offense.

dunno about that. With the addition of off-ball movement in our offense the past few games, we have been pretty damn good. Harden coming along makes this team really dangerous without a big man who can get points.

Putting Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant on the court with one of the few legitimate post presences in the NBA? Our offense has looked alright lately but we're still ranked 10th and we still rank in the bottom five in shooting efficiency.
A big part of why we struggle sometimes defensively is because we over help - a necessity because of our disadvantages in the front court. Even though Gasol isn't a dominant defender, just balancing out the lineup would make our defense much more formidable...

Our schedule is having a lot to do with our recent improvement on offense I think. We'll see how it hold up agaist the good teams soon enough though
Marc Gasol would be a dream for me. I am in total agreement with Slick. I love Green, But Gasol pretty much thrusts up into top3 for offense and our defense would be better for having Ibaka and a true Centre out there. It'd pretty much push up that next step into true contendership.

If Ibaka was the starting PF, Gasol's rebounds might not be a huge deal (I think Ibaka can turn into a 10 rebound PF if he played 38ish minutes). Durant and Westbrook are also among the best rebounders for their positions.
Brook-Harden/Thabo-Durant-Ibaka-Gasol would be deadly.
With that said, I'd be VERY surprised if the Grizzlies let go of the other Gasol brother.

Heres what we should go after... In 2011 FA....
Centers-
1. Marc Gasol- They might match our offers..
2. Deandre Jordan- Hes young and really cheap to pick up.
3. Samuel Dalembert
4. Tyson Chandler
5. Spencer Hawes
6. Greg Oden
7. Yao Ming
8. Kendrick Perkins
The only guys I really would go after is Marc, Deandre, and Samuel, or even Spencer Hawes. I'm more to Deandre because hes sooo young and Hawes.
And we need to look for a back-up SF for KD if Jeff Green walks out. Thoughts?

Pietrus if he doesn't like it in Phoenix and doesn't pick up his player option

Don't think we'd need one.
Gasol / Aldrich
Ibaka / Collison
Durant / Harden
Sefolosha / Harden
Westbrook / Maynor
Harden / Sefolosha is fine at the SF and SG spots.

I agree.
@ Slick: I'm not so sold on, with Harden and Morris at SF that much. But you might be right.
Any ways 2011 FA lets go after
1. Marc Gasol
2. Deandre Jordan
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOO OKCCCCCCCCCC!
