I don't mind this trade at all anymore. These picks will make it easier to trade or dump salaries. Its not all about Melo, theres other moves that can be made if not we're set to rebuild through the draft.

I know every fan base overrates any relatively young player with good athleticism, but Nets fans have been so delusional about Twil. We're talking about a 23 year old player that's basically the same player he was as a sophomore in college, not a 19 year old Derrick Favors.
His talent is extraordinarily overstated here. The guy can do a bunch of things, just not any of them particularly well. He's a horrific scorer who can't shoot or finish. He has good court vision but is a turnover machine and doesn't have a great handle. He's isn't a good defender. He's useless without the ball in his hands and has no real role in any structured offense because of the glaring holes in his game. Great athleticism or no, coaching alone isn't going to completely transform what he's capable of doing on the court. To top this off, he has attitude and work ethic problems and didn't want to play for the Nets.

Yup.. we essentially traded Terrence Williams, an early 2nd rounder and Chris Douglas Roberts for Vujacic, a late 1st rounder and a 1st pick we probably we won't even see if the Rockets fail to make the playoffs.
/sigh
No it's lotto protected through 2016. So I guess we have until then to get it.
I'm not really sure how I feel about this yet. I mean T-Will had talent but he had that look to him like he would never figure it out. He could be the biggest tease the rest of his career like Stromile Swift. For each good play he made two terrible ones. Guys that can't find a position and can't shoot at his size are rarely successful. Plus the fact that he couldn't finish at the rim for his life with his strength and vertical is pretty bad. Clearly I'm trying to find the bright side of this trade but we might have to wait another few years to see what he becomes. If we can bring in a better player fine, if we wind up using these picks and they turn into career D-leaguers then King screwed up.
Two Guys that I would like to trade for that we could probably get without giving up Favors is Mayo and J Smith. I think Smith has improved his shot enough to be a full time SF. I like the way Lopez and Favors look together and think we would be making a huge mistake by going for Melo especially since I think he really doesn't want to be here. Really we are being played right now by the FO into thinking we have a shot a Melo.

I'd be all for Mayo.
Smith seems like a bad idea given the fragile makeup of this team already.
Fact of the matter is that Lopez' regression this year at almost everything other then scoring has really exposed the rest of the the roster defensively and on the glass.

He's probably going to be a career bench player. Let's not act like we gave up a potential superstar here.
thank you...Look, I hoped we could see this kid come into his own, but there is more to this than just what you see on the court...His play was pretty good vs the lakers but he had to ask for directions...things like that make you wonder...I guess we had no interest in the waiting game, I dont blame us...

I'm not thrilled with this move.
Not even happy.
Not really mad either.
Disappointed maybe?
Numb?
Agree with you though, whether this is a preemptive strike to continue in the ridiculous bidding war for Melo or not, the writing was on the wall, T Will was out of here.
Exactly, I wasnt surprised...happy, no not at...I think Twill failed us...but at this point, we obviously know Proky and company want the best shot at you know who and we're looking to get this done ASAP...

Ok so lets review....
I never wanted the Outlaw contract and I wanted Twill to start along with Morrow.
I felt there was no point to the Troy trade, that we should give more minutes to Favors, and that the tradeable cap space was more valuable.
I never was in Favor of overpaying to get Melo...and felt that our best trade assets was the cap space we wasted on Troy.
So what happened?
Outlaw starts...Twill has no role. Outlaw craps the bed...Outlaw regarded as untradeable now...and an over paid bench player. Twill...traded for picks. The only logical conclusion for doing that is the addition of tradeable assets for a bigger trade...still assume it to be Melo. None of our offers so far have been accepted by Denver...reasonable to assume the main reason...the lack of that pure cap space they have tried to shop for from the other teams that still have it. Sure, they may come around...but the one thing I didnt want to do...overpay, it would seem we will have to with picks, prospects and players since we dont have the tradeable cap space. Troy...the guy some defended as a logical move...is a healthy DNP in my nightly box score as the team's highest paid player. Favors gets no run anyway.
DOES THAT ABOUT SUM IT ALL UP????
The only way to jutify the Twil trade is if it gets Melo and saves Devin and Favors from the deal. t the very least...has to spare one of them....but odds are Devin was going no where anyway.
Its starting to feel like we are being run by Larry Brown or Isaiah Thomas. Guys who do something to do something...until its time for them to leave the team in worse shape than it was before they got there. The scary part is...who will know they are making a mess? Brett Yormack? Yormack is the guy who wanted Rod to do something just to do something.
We are in trouble fellas. I fear we are being run by an executive crew of misfits.

Sadly, I must say that I'm starting to agree. I'm just hoping that King will somehow blow us away with some trade that we never saw coming. Chances are that trade will blow me away right off the Nets fanbase as we either cripple our future or the present in the process.

Thank you for Golden State's 2nd Round Pick next year. The Lakers would prefer to have a high 2nd round pick as opposed to a low first rounder with a guaranteed contract. As such, the Lakers haven't made a 1st Round Pick since 2007. That alone would've been worth it from the Lakers point of view.
Sasha certainly won't hurt you guys though. He'll give it his all. and he has a good shooting stroke. He just got caught behind Steve Blake and Shannon Brown, and was the odd man out.

I'll tell you what happened...Ratner sold out to Russia, Russia hired Avery then pushed Thorn out (or he folded cause it was time), hired Billy ...Russia gave Avery and Billy some freedom which failed, Russia stepped in again and are dancing Billy around like a puppet....which bring us to now...
With Russia pulling the strings, they dont care what it takes, they'll get Melo and overapay...and we'll keep making moves unitl someone in Denver says okay...Stop! Carmel Anthony and a supersized contract...
Minus Favors and Morrow every move this year sucked...I truly believe we'll end up with Melo and fight mediocrity until we add the next player...But remember there's no plan, besides trading for assets and maybe clearing a contract or two and whatever cap space we can grab... (dont be surprised if Russia buys out some players, I can see them eating some contracts on a slice of Russian Rye chased with a shot of ZYR)...
Throw out doing things the right way, building a team or watching a young potential nucleus grow...At this point, its all about getting a watchable marketable competitve product on the Barclay's Center floor and going from there...
In two years or so or maybe even less, I wouldnt be surprised if both Billy and Avery are gone after losing in the first round of the playoffs with Melo averaging 28pts a night...or better yet, failing to make the playoffs...

Well, it was what I was afraid of. At least I got my Jaguars, who I know is being run by a competent owner in Wayne Weaver, and a GM who gets it, and is building a team full of character guys and the right way through the draft.
Only silver lining is maybe, just...maybe, all these first rounders will get Denver to spare us from trading Favors. Maybe they take the Lakers, Houston, and our own 1st.
Of course, if that happens, who wants to bet we (they) win the lottery?

JJ...
You could be right about the Russia angle...pulling the strings wanting a big name guy. But you know...I am not seeing it that way.
First, from all I have read...it wasn't Avery that pushed Rod out. It was Rod sick of Brett Yormack...who has positioned himself as his adversary from Rod's personnel management style. Which of course makes sense. Marketing guys dont worry about winning...or about building teams correctly or how salary caps work in the NBA. They worry about how to market the team. How to make money....how to steal back pages. You do that in the NBA with big names. Rod was slow and steady. Build a winner. Then build it again. That is what he was gearing toward doing...and what most of us loved about what he did these last couple of seasons in preparation for making another run.
Avery from what I see was a guy Proky loves. For whatever reason...seems to buy into whatever he had to say during job interviews. But...as I see it, Avery, King and Yormack are free to make decisions. It doesn't look like they are doing the bidding of Proky. It appears to me like...Proky made an investment...one that in scale of all he has is a small part of his portfolio...but one that gets the most public attention at this time. I think...he put a team in place to do what they think is best. Get big names...or go slow. I think Avery walked in...bold and confident and said...I HAVE A FIVE YEAR PLAN...AND THIS is how it should be done. I think Proky said..SOLD. Now go do it.
King was hired to do the work of Avery...and Yormack has proved that he knows how to sell. Like most power hungry little generals...they crave action. Make bold moves. Be it trade...sign...or how you handle your rotation...Avery is going to do what he wants to do.
My fear is...I dint think Proky has a clue if we are off to a good start in terms of the decisions. I dont think he is concerned about record at this time...because you have to break some eggs to make an omelette. I think he saw with his own eyes...Lebron was a hard get...and if it doesn't happen...OK...there needs to be a plan. Avery has one..OK...I will have a couple of my people give me a progress report...but I have other things to do. Let Avery do his thing.
So the big question is..until when? And who will know...uh oh...we are making a mess.
Now you said you think Russia stepped in again and is dancing Billy King around like a puppet. What makes you think that? That is the part I am not seeing. To me it looks like these guys are doing what they want....and they have the keys to the kingdom.
What would be the saving grace? Well...its getting Melo for picks and expiring contracts and keeping Favors Devin and Brook. Although lets be honest. We are bad enough that one of our picks will be high lottery again. Will we be smart enough to have some protection on at least the 2011 Nets pick?
I dont like what I see....but I am going to wait until the Melo thing is done. I never wanted this move...but at this stage it comes down to how we do it, if at all. If all these guys are doing is...shuffling around bodies, making crazy line up moves...and they are willing to go all in for one guy? Then we know. We are being run like a hit and run team. Whatever looks good for Avery, King and Yormack on the back pages. An that goes on until someone above them says...OK ENOUGH.
See Isaiah.

Yup, so the Nets basically gave away T-Will and two seconds for cap space the team didn't necessarily need this summer, a crappy first, and a pick that will probably won't be seen for a few years. Awesome.
