Reviewing the commentators leading to draft night

Post#1 » by shrink » Fri Dec 17, 2010 4:23 pm

It's kind of a blast:

In a rumor that has been swirling around for a couple of weeks, the Wolves and Golden State Warriors have been discussing a deal. The core of the deal would see the Wolves sending the No. 4 pick in the 2010 draft and either Kevin Love or Al Jefferson to the Warriors in exchange for small forward Anthony Randolph.

Ray Richardson of TwinCities.com wrote: Kahn is not about to deal for Golden State Warriors forward Anthony Randolph.

Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com wrote: coonfirms that the Indiana Pacers contacted the Minnesota Timberwolves in regards to Jonny Flynn for the tenth pick, but Kahn says there’s “no way” the Wolves would do that.

==============================
David Aldridge of NBA.com wrote: Minnesota Timberwolves forward Ryan Gomes is the most likely player to be traded on draft night. His 2010-11 salary of $4.23 million is only guaranteed for $1 million for next season, so a team that acquires him on June 24 can save $3.23 million in cap room by July 1 if he’s released. You can’t find that kind of savings anywhere east of your area Target on President’s Day.

Jerry Zgoda wrote: The Wolves agreed to absorb Beasley’s $5 million salary in exchange for a 2011 second-round pick and a swap of future first-round picks that the Wolves can extend out to seven years from now.

Did I just miss this? Is it un-protected? If this is true, it could be huge, and makes the Beasley deal even better than we thought. Its very rare that a team is good for seven years.

The swap of first round picks was thrown out and not part of the final deal. Instead we gave them another 2nd round pick.

Isn't the swap of future 1st rounders mostly a bad thing for us?...I guess a lot changes in 7 years though. Maybe we'll be good and the Heat will be broken down.

*edit* never mind, just saw Worm Guts' post

I have no time to look this up, but didn't we try to use Brewer to move up in the draft?

OMG what a bargain we could have had MAGIC Randolph for the minuscule price of the #4 pick and that scrub Kevin Love?!!

I remember the post about turning down Flynn for #10 and my Xavier Henry dreams being crushed.

Our spacing would be horrible with his poor 3pt shooting. I really havent seen him play but I guess it cant be all bad if he is starting over mayo.

He was billed as a three point shooter coming out. I don't know what him % looks like , but I imagine he'll be a three point shooter eventually.

Yeah, well...in my defense, I didn't do thorough research.

Apparently Henry has been playing very good defense despite his slow start on offense. The analysts do seem pretty confident that his shooting will come around.

How about the rumor that the Nets were going to take Wes. Kahn did a great job of calling that bluff. :D

I forgot the one that started this whole thing:

Chad Ford wrote: The Blazers rejected the Wolves' offer of the No. 4 pick for Batum a couple of week ago.

This is hard for me to believe, but kind of interesting in light of the recent rumorthat PHI turned down an offer of Batum + Pryzbilla +? for Iguodala. If this is true, PHI's asking price for Iguodala is far more than what I'd be willing to spend

If that's true, it's definitely a surprise.

That seems obvious to me as well. Even so, MN overvaluing Batum doesn't mean that the Sixers would value him the same way.
