Orlando and Washington are engaged in serious discussions for a trade that would send Gilbert Arenas(notes) to the Magic, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Arenas has privately told people for days that he believes a deal will soon send him to Orlando, where he’ll be reunited with Magic general manager Otis Smith, a friend and mentor from Arenas’ days with the Golden State Warriors. Sources said Orlando has escalated its pursuit of a deal in recent days. After losing five of their past six games, the Magic have shown more urgency to find a perimeter scorer who can help them stay a viable contender in the Eastern Conference.

Still unclear was whether Orlando would send the expiring contract of Vince Carter(notes) as part of the package or build a trade around longer-term contracts, including that of backup center Marcin Gortat(notes), sources said. The Wizards also have been angling to get a first-round pick in return, sources said.

But wow, just wow. Orlando will be better. But, Arenas isn't just as good as he use to be.

Orlando would be stupid to trade for Arenas without sending back Rashard Lewis.

Am I missing something? How exactly does this make Orlando better? Current Gilbert Arenas isnt even better than a current Jameer Nelson OR Vince Carter....

If Orlando does this, they're putting all their chips into the middle of the table. If Arenas doesn't work out, Dwight is GONE in 2012. Big time gamble.

They need to make a move for the sake of making a move before the trade deadline. What they have now simply won't work against the Celtics and the Magic will probably get knocked out even against the new Eastern powerhouses in the Heat and Bulls.

Orlando should do that, gives them more time. Vince is on a decline and he'll probably go back to orlando for very little money next season

This guy chucks at 39% and 32% from 3. Lol he's less efficient then Wince from last year and he's got a bloated contract. I think the Magic would be better of pursuing Ellis or even Iguodala
